Electronic Arts Will Handle Publishing Duties On Amalur.

The distinctly not-Mercury flavoured Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning is a single-player "open world" RPG, presumably of the flavour you'd expect from a game with a title like that.

The game will compliment 38 Studios' long in-development MMO, Copernicus, and will even take place in the same "mysterious and magical new fantasy world created by New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore". While 38 Studios are at the helm of Amalur, it's actually in development over at Big Huge Games, the studio which 38 acquired from THQ last year.

The game's not due until Fall 2011, so details are extremely scarce. We do know that novelist R.A. Salvatore and artist Todd McFarlane are on board, however. Studio boss Ken Rolston also had a little tease about what to expect from Amalur's gameplay: "We've added something new that we've always wanted from the genre — a fast-paced, graphically stimulating action combat experience with fluid control and immersive, discoverable gameplay fans haven't seen before in other fantasy RPGs."
