Playstation 3's On The Rise & Rise, While PSP's Falling Away.

The Networked Products & Services division - of which Sony Computer Entertainment is a part of - saw sales drop by roughly 10% due to exchange rate issues, alongside a drop in Vaio laptop sales and Playstation Portable hardware.

The PSP dropped significantly, with just 9.9 million units sold in 2009 compared to 2008's 14.1 million. That's an enormous drop, particularly when factoring in the launch of the PSPgo. Perhaps those rumours of a new PSP may well be justified?

On a much brighter note for Sony though, the PS3's performance continues to improve, with 13 million units sold in 2009. That number easily beats out 2008's 10.1 million units. Sony are expecting to shift 15 million units in 2010.

Interestingly, the Playstation 2 continues to chug along too, shifting a whopping 7.3 million units. With those kind of sales, it's unlikely Sony will implement PS2 downloadable games on the PS3 just yet, like we were expecting. Remember, those PS2 sales are presumably almost straight profit for Sony.
