Platinum Trophy #13: Astro Bot Rescue Mission

Dopamine Index:
Look, I messed up, didn't I? This was meant to go out last Saturday, and I straight up forgot to write it.
If you were worried I'd lost interest, or run out of platinums to vaguely talk about, I'm afraid it's just my tired brain more concerned with what to make for dinner. Well, it won't happen again*.
I can't believe I forgot when the game I had lined up was Astro Bot Rescue Mission, still to this day one of the finest virtual reality games available.
For as much as I truly adore the more recent PS5 platformer Astro Bot, there's something so special about the PSVR exclusive.
On the face of it, it's a charming, very straightforward 3D platformer, but words cannot describe the difference virtual reality makes.
PSVR's definitely past it at this point; we're sure the image quality doesn't hold up to modern tech, and obviously it's a pain to get it operating on PS5. A port to PSVR2 would be nice, Sony.
However, it's so worth playing. The depth and sense of perspective and scale is something only virtual reality can provide, and Team Asobi put it to immaculate use in Rescue Mission.
Finding the Bots in each level is fun because, sometimes, they're completely out of view unless you physically move to see them. This also applies to collectibles — it adds a whole new layer to a genre that's been more or less perfected over the last 30 years.
Nabbing the platinum Trophy for this game was a sheer pleasure. It's not a tough one, really — it's another one of those "do everything" lists — but when the game is this engaging and charming and fun, it doesn't really matter.
Unfortunately, it feels unlikely that we'll get another Astro Bot game designed for headsets, but I'm very glad I played Rescue Mission; I've still yet to play anything better in VR. The silver lining is that the character has gone on to become even bigger and better, and is nearing PlayStation mascot status, if he isn't there already.
Cheers, Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Like like these little platinum articles yall have been doing lately.
Fantastic job on platting this wonderful game Stephen, I’m surprised you said it wasn’t tough as the challenges got the better of me.
Delightful game with bags of charm.
Yeah, wish this game was easier to be able to play, I don't think this game is as good as Astro Bot, but this is still a very fun game.
So much better than its flat screen sequel. VR elevates the game to something majestic. And yes, a very fun platinum.
Plat #424 for me. I wanted to get it done before Astro Bot came out so I had the all the others beforehand. Fun game that made decent use of the VR tools.
One of my favourite platinum trophies and my only one on the psvr. Wish they would do a psvr2 version so I can play it again. I’ve started moss about 10 times now on my psvr2 and every time one of my kids comes and annoys me until I let them play instead.
Without a PSVR2 port, I'll never see this game.
One of my favourite platinum trophies ever. Along with Playroom VR. Superb
I got this one just a few days ago, and it launched my enjoyment of astro bot games in general, though it did take a few months to finish because it was a vr game, though the presentation was really cool
Easily one of the PS4’s best games. I loved every minute and didn’t want it to end.
Astro Bot on PS5 was also amazing and was definitely my game of the year in 2024. But even that couldn’t reach the level Astro Bot on VR did. An absolutely mind blowing experience.
Such a shame so many people missed out on it. They really should’ve brought it to PSVR2 as well.
How hard would it be to transfer this game to PsVr2? The IP has more traction now than before. I wish Sony would throw us a bone.
Congrats on platting the best psvr game. Happy to say I got the platinum here as well. What a brilliant game. You just knew it was going to be something special after playing the truly excellent Astro bot demo the headset comes with.
I think its the best Astrobot game
origianl PSVR setups are incredibly cheap now days on facebook. i got one £30 that included everything and move controllers and considering sony already gave away alot of the games for free its a bargain
I almost bought a PSVR1 on sale JUST for this game (and maybe a few others). Sadly I think it's one i'll never play.
Played this (and got the Platinum) on release and it's still easily the most joyously entertaining game of the last decade for me. It's also one of the few games that dropped my jaw for the sheer spectacle of some of the most imaginative levels.
@trev666 I can be a pain to get hold of the psvr adaptor if playing on ps5. I got mine as soon I was able to but don’t know if Sony are still making them anymore
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk theres tons of them available from china on ebay
This was an absolute pleasure to platinum. The creative use of VR in this game still has not been topped.
I am so annoyed by Sony not bringing this and Blood&Truth to PSVR2 or not paying Capcom to bring RE7 PS5 version etc.
