Earlier in the year, a rumour was doing the rounds that LEGO and PlayStation are partnering up for an official PS1 set, apparently launching in time for the holiday season.
This has yet to be proven true, but now, an additional detail is fanning the flames once again.
A LEGO news site called Brick Tap has apparently heard from anonymous sources that Astro Bot is joining in on the fun:
According to this post shared on Reddit, the PS1 set arrives on 1st October, and if you buy it, you'll receive a LEGO Astro Bot figure at no extra cost.
While the price of the set is allegedly "up in the air", the original leak had it down as €159.99/$159.99, which is what's also shown in this new image.
Astro Bot accompanying your LEGO PS1 is a neat idea, assuming it's true, as he's become the de facto mascot of the brand at this point.
Given we've heard about this set a couple of times now, I feel as though it's probably real, but we won't know for certain until later in the year.
In the meantime, would you be interested in a LEGO PS1 set with an Astro on the side? Tell us in the comments section below.

What does this Astro character got to do with PS1?
Id love this but if it's 160 Euros I imagine it's going to be at least £130
I hope this gets a physical release.
Is it petty of me to be critical of Astro's inclusion rather than an ACTUAL PSone character?
Yes.
Am I wrong?
No.
Still neat. I can't be bothered with LEGOs, but I am tempted to get Astro, Sonic, and Mario minifigs and start a little collection of game characters.
@Czar_Khastik Sony was pretty down with NFTs until that market imploded.
Sony are leading the way in cutting out superfluous plastics.
Pretty sure I already pre-ordered the set. The Game Boy Lego released was one of the best three-hours I ever spent with a Lego set. I didn't expect that it would also include replicating the insides too/cables/chips etc. Lego outdid themselves with that set. If you tilt the handheld the Nintendo start-up screen pops up and the cartridges that they included are so well designed. I'm really looking forward to that Playstation One. I probably missed out on Astrobot but that's fine I really just want the set. It's going next to one of my Playstation Ones, probably the day one machine.
I assume the Astro Bot GWP set includes an Astro Bot minifigure and a buildable Dual Speedster
We'll see how I feel after picking up the Donkey Kong machine set tomorrow. I'm guessing that I'll be getting this. It'll look nice between the 1:1 GameBoy and the mini Sega Genesis.
Does it rot into dust after ten years? Poof!
More Lego always gets a thumbs up for me and my purchasing habits. It’s essentially a quarter of my gaming/social room at this point.
Do question the whole PS1/Astro Bot vibe, but the games make a wonderful nod to all the PlayStation peripherals and consoles, so I’ll allow it haha.
Still need to get the Donkey Kong one too, must not forget that!
Just let me know when it’s available, either that or I can wait for my daughter to use my card and “surprise” me with it no doubt.
It’s likely all my daughters junk when I pass away anyway, so I guess it’s only fair she has some input 😂
Crazy how expensive Lego is nowadays and insane how popular it is given how expensive it is.
@-wc- Because Crash Bandicoot is owned by Microsoft now.
@Czar_Khastik I'm blaming you if I pop that box in October and find a piece of paper with a link to an STL file, then have to print it one brick at a time.
It’s been awhile since I clicked the bricks together. Are they still sold as physical plastic blocks you buy and own, or has Lego shifted to a digital only business model where those coveted ‘one piecers’ you’ve hoarded can be taken away from you without your consent?
Now is this PS1 a full size replica like the NES and Game Boy, or is it like the Mega Drive that uh....yep.
Man...i remember playing Astro Bot on PS1 on launch day. Me and brother broke day trying to beat that final boss. There'll be no Mario 64 if it wasn't for Astro Bot.
@Haruki_NLI that lego mega drive was hideous and looked cheap af.
@-wc- Brand synergy hahaha 😂🤣
For several LEGO sets, if you buy them from their website (or authorized retailers), you get another, smaller, set for free. For example, anyone who bought The Hobbit, The Shire set received the promotional Sméagol & Déagol set. Its likely the same situation here. The AstroBot set probably isnt part of the Playstation set itself. Unless you want it to be. Its LEGO, after all.
@Balaam_ don’t worry, bro. Lego still produces physical plastic bricks that can literally never decompose or biodegrade so that you can put it on a shelf to look at occasionally while it collects dust the handful of decades you exist on this planet.
@Czar_Khastik I think they confirmed it's a code in a box and i bet digital only people will loves it 😁
Yeah, I’m not a fan of these sets.
Lego Technic on the other hand..
I have a couple of LEGO sets, but I never understood the appeal of making a non-functioning plastic toy replica of a mass produced consumer electronics box and treating it like it's art.
Like if someone made hollow PS1 replicas for display purposes, I think a lot of people would say "what a dumb thing", but then you make a less accurate version of it out of building blocks and all the sudden the nostalgic consumerist slop pleasure center in the brains of an apparently sizable number light up. I don't get it.
@Sweetz
it's because many people mistake "spend money on X" and "more plastic for shelf" for legitimate hobbies.
@Czar_Khastik as a code*
@-wc- “What does this Astro character got to do with PS1?”
absolutely nothing xD
@-wc- yep, thats what I thought. Maybe the T-Rex from the tech demo would have been a good start, as a general idea?
@-wc-
In this case, Astro should be replaced & PS1 Lego-bundled with either Jumping Flash!'s Robbit, Sweet tooth from Twisted Metal, 1995 Rayman, or Eiji from Battle Arena Toshinden. Heck, I'll even take the red car from 95' Ridge Racer over Astro.
Astro Bot: Rescue Mission for PSVR1 is one of the most incredible gaming experiences I've had in my entire life, but Astro's Playroom & AB for PS5 ? They're a total bore by comparison imo.
