The thing I really appreciate about Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is that it’s providing a different spin on familiar characters and concepts.
For example, we’re all familiar with Iron Man, right? But Arc System Works’ interpretation of the character incorporates elements from mecha manga and anime, like Gundam and Getter Robo.
That’s really special, and in this 17-minute promo documentary, the dev – alongside producers from both PlayStation and Marvel Games – explain exactly how they conceived the game, its story, and its unique sense of style.

There’s nothing in this video that’s particularly new, but it provides interesting insight into the creative process.
For example, in the case of the aforementioned Iron Man, the team reveals it was really struggling with the concept until Marvel Games introduced it to Samurai Iron Man, which ultimately helped inform its design.
The single player story mode, named Episodes, will feature comic book panels drawn by a variety of different artists – some leveraging a Western art style, others leaning more into manga.
Similarly, different musicians have been recruited to soundtrack the battles, which use dynamic stems to help underline the drama of each individual skirmish.
Remember, you’ll be able to put a huge chunk of the fighter through its paces with this week’s open beta, and you can find out more about how to participate through here.
