If you're keeping up, you'll know that Xbox has just announced sweeping layoffs across its business, eliminating more than 3,000 jobs over the next year and divesting several of its first-party studios.
ZeniMax Media, which houses publisher Bethesda Softworks as well as numerous development studios, will feel some of the impact from this Xbox reset.
Citing anonymous sources, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reports that studios such as id Software (DOOM) and ZeniMax Online Studios (The Elder Scrolls Online) are set to cut a "significant" number of staff.
Arkane Studios, meanwhile, has entered a consultation process in which it'll be determined whether the studio is sold, made independent, or otherwise in accordance with French labour laws.
Schreier also points out that, amid all these changes, ZeniMax's teams will be realigned to focus on the company's biggest franchises, including The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, DOOM, Wolfenstein, and Quake.
This more or less echoes what was previously reported; The Information claimed Xbox boss Asha Sharma wanted to fast-track new games in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, which have not received major new titles for a long time.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced nearly a decade ago, although the series does continue with the aforementioned Elder Scrolls Online and last year's Oblivion remaster. Fallout lives on with 76, but the last mainline game was released in 2015.
Xbox bought ZeniMax Media in 2020 for around $7.5 billion.
