Kojima Said Death Stranding 2 Actor Would Be the Spitting Image of Solid Snake in a Bandana, So He Made It Happen 1

If you’ve watched the new Death Stranding 2 trailer, you’ll know that Italian actor Luca Marinelli puts on a bandana and looks directly into the camera like Metal Gear Solid protagonist Solid Snake.

It’s one of the best Easter eggs in the epic 10-minute trailer, but did you know auteur Hideo Kojima foreshadowed the scene half a decade ago?

In a quote posted to his official Instagram page in July 2020, the iconic industry veteran was talking about which creators and actors currently have his attention.

Kojima said: “Luca Marinelli recently caught my eye after watching The Old Guard and Martin Eden. He played an impressive villain in They Call Me Jeeg Robot, but I think that he will break out soon, and his popularity will increase. Also, I think if he donned a bandana, he’d be a spitting image of Solid Snake.”

It’s insane to think, half a decade later, the veteran followed through on his original vision – and cast Marinelli as, what some fans are naming colloquially, Not-So Solid Snake.

It’s obsessive little details like this which rank Kojima among the greatest creators this industry has ever seen.
