Square Enix has slapped a release date of 18th March 2022 on Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin as part of its TGS 2021 showcase. The collaboration with Nioh developer Team Ninja has also issued a brand new trailer to coincide with the announcement, and it does its best to avoid saying the word "chaos". Instead of that, we get to meet "Garland. My name's Jack Garland."
If you want to play the game right now, though, a new demo is now available on the PS Store. It'll stick around until 11th October 2021, with a survey accompanying the playable teaser so you can share your feedback. The full game can also be pre-ordered now at a price of £59.99/$59.99, or you could opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition and gain three days of early access along with the season pass for £84.99/$89.99.

Okay less "chaos" is already a brownie point from me.
We came for the chaos, but stuck around for Jack Garland.
I will say though the 2nd trailer looked way better than the 1st. Looking forward to killing some more chaos today after work!
Ahhh that makes sense that he’s Garland then. I’ll play the demo, I really enjoyed the first one actually.
So some alternative timeline shenanigans are happening
This trailer was actually pretty good. That plot-twist at the end was surprising but I think it's better to reserve that in the actual game rather than spoiling it on a trailer. Anyway, "Jack Garland" might become the next meme of this game
This is looking a lot better, although not loving jacks VA. Either way am much more optimistic and will definitely give the demo a go
I was here for more CHAOS.... and was disappointed. (They should have embraced the meme)
Thankfully the game looks pretty good, the last demo was FUN!
Also liked the Garland reveal.
I don’t play demo’s so I’ve only watched a few short videos. It doesn’t look ‘that’ spectacular but I’m a massive fan of souls-likes and I’ve gotten into FF recently, so I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on this one.
It looks cool but who designed the characters they all look so bloody boring. I think Japan thinks that the West loves bland dudes and the girl she has nothing interesting she looks so boring.
I have complete faith in Team Ninja. Looking forward to it.
@colonelkilgore You ain't never played a souls-like that ya never liked! Haha, how have you been friend it's been a while.
I was really disappointed with the debut trailer and first demo, but this looks admittedly much better. I'll check out this new demo soon.
The one hang up for me is the character designs. They just look so generic and don’t fit with the world of the original Final Fantasy.
@TraCuz- yeah good Tra, you still killin' it on FFXIV? How've you been?
Dipped into the new demo and while it's pretty much the same as the one released earlier, i'm still having a ton of fun with it.
For those hoping for any visual improvements, you won't find them here - I'm playing it on PS5 in "Performance" mode and there are frame drops GALORE, it can barely hold onto 60fps, coupled that with the 360/PS3 era graphics and really does hurt the eyes. I do get serious double-A vibes with this one, which is a shame as it has a £60 price tag.
Having said that the gameplay is super absorbing and addicting; the combat is fun and intense and the Job system is deep and rewarding. Fans of Nioh and Souls games in general will have a blast. I can't wait to grab it.
Game is gonna be awesome. I completely trust Team Ninja, and they've earned it with Nioh and Nioh 2 and DLC.
I just hate the name Stranger Of Paradise lol
It sounds like the title of a crappy Fallout Boy song
This was a much better trailer. At the very least it shows there's some variety to the environments and enemies (and colour palette in general)
I liked the first demo! Downloading this 😬
@Flaming_Kaiser I have to agree - the characters look super boring
Anyone else have much trouble finding the demo on the PS Store? I had to follow the links from the Stranger of Paradise twitter to the PS Store on my computer and download it that way.
Oh nice might be good I usually like ff games .
@DomGC i mean visually it is not impressive, can you not at least admit that. I don't know if you have seen the demos yet either, but in tandem with the visual meh, the voice acting is absolutely awful, and the level design is very lacking.
So as much as I am optimistic about the soulslike/FF fusion here, i remain cautiously optimistic and nothing more.
If nothing else though the trailers and demo are at least quite clear on what you are getting with this game, so at least one can't overhype it based on potential alone. So that's definitely appreciated
a lot of performance issues on ps5.
Seriously, what can we do to make them realize that those graphics won't cut it. Character models looks okay.. but the levels in the trailer are painful to watch. There is a moment (at 02:14) that a bush model appears and disappears, that is unacceptable in a game running on a PS5. There is a fog effect that makes everything look faded (pause the trailer at 01:29 and take a look). This is aggravated when combined with the blur effect applied on the characters. Compare it with the visuals in FF VII Remake where everything looks crispy clean. I don't know if this fog effect is something plot related, but if it is it actually makes it more important for it to look good, not less. One last note, that colored outline on the characters models, I am not a fan (but that is just my personal opinion).
Sorry if anyone got annoyed at me for hammering down on this aspect of the game, but I think this game can be important for the PS5. Which is why I will again, as I said multiple times before, that Sony will help PS5 a lot by sending a team to help the developers make this Final Fantasy game look great on the PS5.
This trailer really impressed me! Also so happy we finally have a solid date now, even if it is in March.
So I just watched a new vid on this where a journo is talking through his thoughts on the combat etc. It looks quite a bit better than the initial stuff that I saw in terms of graphics and the combat looked really good. This just shot forward on my excitement scale!
I was pretty bored by the demo. As soon as they put me in a room crammed full of monster fights with no context or level flow, I noped out.
