PS5 PlayStation 5

As promised, the PlayStation 5's major firmware update is now available to download.

PS5 system software version 21.02-04.00.00 has been released, and is ready for you to download and install. Weighing in at about 914MB, this is the largest update to the console's firmware to date, adding in a bunch of quality-of-life changes, improvements, and brand new features.

There are a few things worth noting about this update. The biggest addition is you can now supplement the PS5's internal SSD storage with an off-the-shelf M.2 SSD, as long as it's compatible of course. This means you can finally expand your storage for PS5 games without having to export them to an HDD. You can find the Best PS5 SSD and How to Install a PS5 SSD through the link.

The next major addition is an expansion on PS5's 3D audio tech. This update enables 3D audio for TV speakers, meaning you shouldn't need to plug in headphones to enjoy spatial sound.

There's a lot more included here, and we'll be sure to keep you up to speed with everything as we play around with the new update. There's a more detailed breakdown through the link, in the meantime.
