Yakuza: Like a Dragon Free PS5 Upgrade Now Available

Bloody typical, the one free upgrade me, Sammy, and Liam were all looking forward to!

Already put 70h into the game, finished it but wanted to get a few trophies. But since the save doesn't work on the PS4, I'll just have to complete it on the PS4.

Sounds like Sony's issue with the storefront to me. I am sure they will get it sorted fairly soon.

I am just willing the postie to finally show up today with my copy!

@tameshiyaku I'd never pay full price for a digital game - I don't understand the people who pre-order them digitally. But once a game ages to the point that it goes on sale, it's a lot more appealing. Often the sale prices in the PS store are significantly cheaper than buying a physical copy (despite the price of that having come down too) - especially the fancy Gold/Ultimate/whatever editions - which generally if you bought a physical copy of, you'd have a harder time selling on anyway as the extra content gets locked to your account

@danlk1ng I usually find games at more reduced prices through online price aggregators and it most often than not is cheaper than digital. Sometimes I go digital though if a complete edition is super cheap and I know that all the additional content is not on disc, but via download code. That way the disc loses most resell value anyways.
In case of Yakuza 7, it was a launch day physical buy for me. Gotta support those Sega localizations that they keep coming until we finally receive Kenzan and Ishin.

I got the Legendary Hero edition when it was on sale a couple months ago. Still can't download the PS5 version for free (it shows the price tag as if I haven't bought the game)

I expect it'll be available later on when they update the shop but it's still weird it's not a problem for physical owners

The upgrade system is an unintuitive mess.

I tried to download digital upgrade today and met the same problem. Glad to know it's a more widespread problem but I'm not worried if I need to wait a while

@danlk1ng yep exactly that for me! and tbh, having stopped messing around with discs for any other form of media years ago, there is just no way I'd ever want to go back to that for games! More so in fact in this age of faster loading, swapping etc.

But you can guarantee any topic concerning digital will garner the usual queries from disc users, probably for years to come!

@tameshiyaku totally agree , bought PS4 version and waiting for ps5 version to get delivered today - everyone else reading this probably thinks I’m wasting money - I’m happy though and as you say praying they keep supporting us

The current upgrade system is a bit of a mess to be honest.

I've got sackboy and use the ps5 version but it insists on downloading the PS4 version and or updates for it and essentially uses double the space.

Really annoying.

@tameshiyaku Lots of reasons:

• Instant access to the game without having to load the disc.
• On top of that, PS4 games have to install to the hard drive to be playable anyway, so it's merely a choice between a digital version you can load anytime and a digital version with a plastic frisbee acting as DRM.
• Nearly all PS4 games have updates/patches/etc., so the game isn't 100% on the disc anyway.
• Discs can be scratched or lost, and boxes take up physical space.
• The vast majority of PS4 games don't hold their value, so reselling them isn't really an attractive option unless you play them immediately after launch and then flip them online.
• All PS4 games have digital versions, so you can consolidate your library in one format.
• PSN sales oftentimes blow away new physical sales online. You could buy used, I guess, but at that point none of your money is supporting the publisher.
• As an addendum to the last point, more of your money goes to the publisher when you buy digitally.

I'm obviously not saying physical doesn't have its perks, of course.

I need to return to this game. I like Ichiban, but I got bored of the gameplay. It's annoying because the combat is clever and well thought out, but I just struggled to stay interested in it.

If like all the other games, you have to play through twice to beat all the trophy challenges / to play on the hardest difficulty (unlocked only after beating the game on hard).

Same problem! I have legendary hero edition digital and no upgrade to ps5.... I can find the costumes set on the store of the ps app, but it won't appear on the console

Sorry to bring this up again, but how about a Soapbox article covering how bad the PS5 store is? It's been months now and still is barely fit for purpose. So much stuff is hidden and will get missed unless you know what you are looking for.

• Missing games when listing PS5 or PS4 games- For example, the Nioh Collection doesn't show in the entire PS5 games list. You have to manually search for it! This is a big problem as there are many more games not showing up when it comes to PS4 titles, too. You have to manually search for them if you wish to buy them. I only knew some recent indies had launched after booting up my PS4 to check the store or saw them listed on PSPrices.
• The awkwardness of getting an upgrade from a PS4 version to PS5. It really shouldn't be this hidden and work 'most of the time'.
• Discoverability in the store is awful now. If you thought it was bad on the PS4, then this is on a whole new level. Unless you are a pre-order for DeathLoop, of course. That one has been prominent since launch day!
• Only 2 featured sales are displayed. If there are 3 Sales (as was the case a week or two ago) then you will not see one of these. Additionally, the Deal of the Week is never shown. Thankfully we even have a Sales tab now, but it's still not good enough.
• No demos tab. If you wanted to try the Guilty Gear Strive or Outriders demos, you need to find the full game to find the demo.
• The filters do not work. I have it set to show 'New to Old' but it will frequently put new games amongst releases from months ago. This is obviously worse with PS4 games where the titles go back years.

I have the standard disc version and upgraded just fine. Looking forward to starting it after work. Hopefully they can get this mess straightened out for every one else. The store is in dire need of an overhaul.

Regardless of when they are bought, you can usually get the majority of your money back. And if you buy second hand it’s very rare to ever pay more than £10 in total for a game.

So, from a cost perspective physical is usually 3-5 times cheaper.

But, yes, the benefits of digital you mentioned in terms of convenience and durability are fair points.

Really? So no legend playthrough? I’ve been working through them, and have finished 0-3 with the plat and they all require it. 4, which I’m doing now, needs 3 playthroughs. If that changes in 6 I’ll actually be quite pleased about that, lol.

No, they do not, apart from micro transactions, which typically represent the majority of income for games that include them.

Updated again, RGG Studio says it's aware of the problem and is working to get it resolved. At least we're getting some communication now!

@tameshiyaku price and convenience, for me. I could order division 2 + warlord dlc, physical, or download them both for $13. Also, splinter cell chaos theory, $5 on xb. $15-60 elsewhere.

@BloodNinja You basically get the enhanced version of the game, usually with higher resolution, frame rate Ray tracing etc. or nice inclusions like haptic controller features or those game title hint things.

The whole free upgrade thing was kind of lead by Microsoft when Sony still 'believed in generations" and it seems like they've rushed through their solution. Whatever the reasons for it not working, it's just not good enough. I'm thankful that I'm sticking to my PS4 Pro for now so that these issues can be fixed by the time I get a PS5.

@Medic_Alert The complete U-turn annoyed me to start with when Jim Ryan was acting his usual smug self saying that Sony believed in generations. Then backtracked and kept quiet about it.

Then for this issue to happen really isn't good enough. This should be sorted before the games launch. If the issues you mentioned for MK11 on Xbox are true then that's not good enough either. I'm fed up with games being released that can't even deliver the basic functionality they should have.

It's obviously important enough for there to be articles and comments on this site.

@Medic_Alert True. And my frustration isn't solely directed at Sony. All platforms have had things happen that really shouldn't happen in 2021.

I guess I just had a s****y day and got angry about something that really doesn't matter that much. 😂

Anyone else unimpressed with the upgrade? The animation is jerky as hell, the resolution is a bit fuzzy. I had to double check that I was playing the correct version. It doesn't look like anything the PS4 couldn't do.

So I purchased the game yesterday. Downloaded it. Then I went back to the Playstation store to upgrade to PS5 version today. It gave me a download option. I hit download then confirm purchase. It charged me twice. So I paid $120 for the same game. 🙄
Hopefully it's worth it. Even though it now gives me an error code, and I still can't download it.

Virtua Fighter 5 on PS5?

@Medic_Alert @Deadhunter I half expected with several moths of additional time to polish it that the PS5 version would run much better than the XSX version. Apparently, and inexplicably, that's not the case.

This engine must be a real piece of work of cobbled together PS3 bits and bobs or something. On XSX (and presumably PS5?) the resolution mode is pretty (not blurry or anything), but the framerate is terrible. On performance mode, (on XSX) it seems mostly steady but not always a solid 60, but the visual downgrade is immense. It's not just 1080p. Textures and geometry seem downgraded across the board, density and draw distance seem reduced. It looks like an early PS3 game. I ended up sticking with resolution mode so it actually looks good (but not amazing and doesn't even support HDR...) and dealing with the low fps dips because it's a turn based JPRG and the fps isn't all that important. I did notice that the worst of it seems to be in Kamurocho daytime. The fps improves quite a bit at nighttime, and stays generally better in Yokohama. I'm not sure what about Kamurocho specifically during daytime is such a problem but that appears to be the worst of it. Indoors it can hit smooth (IDK if it's 60fps but it's a smoother than 30 fps) much more often.

It's definitely just a broken game engine in general.
