Update: Despite the announcement from EA regarding its next-gen PGA Tour title, 2K Sports remains committed to its own PGA Tour 2K franchise's future: “We’ve seen tremendous success with PGA TOUR 2K21 and look forward to sharing more information on the next PGA Tour 2K game, including Tiger Woods’ exclusive involvement, in the future,” a spokesperson told us.
Original Story: You may think golf is boring, but this story is anything but. Having successfully launched a best-selling sports sim with PGA Tour 2K21, publisher 2K Sports acquired developer HB Studios and signed a long-term deal with Tiger Woods, showcasing its commitment to the series. Now EA Sports has announced its own relationship with PGA Tour, and has revealed that it too is developing a next-gen golf game. Remember, EA Sports also recently sniped Codemasters from under 2K Sports’ nose.
Named EA Sports PGA Tour – with a launch date to be announced in the coming months – “golf fans will be able to build their virtual career and experience the sights, sounds, and thrills of the PGA Tour including The Players Championship, FedExCup Playoffs, and more unforgettable events”. It’s part of a new “long-term deal” between EA Sports and PGA Tour which will see the publisher leverage its Frostbite Engine to deliver “stunning fidelity, breath-taking immersive environments, and approachable, dynamic gameplay”.
The last EA Sports published golf game released on PlayStation 4 in 2015 as Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, but the publisher effectively abandoned the license after sales were lukewarm. “EA Sports and the PGA Tour have created some of the most memorable golf video game experiences together, and we couldn’t be more excited to expand our sports portfolio with a new golf title on next-gen hardware,” said the publisher’s Cam Weber.
EA Sports is currently expanding its roster of sports simulations, with a college football game also in development. Meanwhile, 2K Sports is developing its own NFL title – although this will not be a simulation, as EA Sports has exclusive rights to that category. At what point do we consider this all-out war between the two publishing giants?

There's no mention of EA having exclusivity, and as recently as this month 2K Sports was talking about PGA Tour 2K as a franchise, so I'm guessing there's no exclusivity here.
Will contact 2K and try to find out what this means for them, though.
I can't wait to watch 2K and EA stumble over themselves to create the most exploitative, greedy golf games in history!
Optimistic on how it will look on the frostbite engine! Pretty exciting to go from having small studio annual golf games to 2 massive triple A annual golf games (assume annual?). Now if EA would only develop NHL to use frostbite... too small of market I assume
An exclusive deal with Happy Gilmore and I'll buy it.
In this specific battle of two very ***** giants I'm rooting for 2K, for the golf game at least. In Basketball I want EA to give 2K some competition with a new NBA Live. In American football 2K should have the right to make an simulation alternative to Madden.
To some it all up these are two of the greediest companies in the world (that's saying allot) so there are no good guys here, we just have to campare them game by game.
Let's hope these companies push each other to make amazing games!
Fuji Golf for the win!!..

..man, I'm old😂😂😭😭
@B3TTS No confirmation in the article, but EA makes it sound like this game is coming this year.
Yikes...
I actually breathed a sigh of relief when 2K took over the PGA license last year, although it didn't really do much for me and I ended up quickly eBaying it. It'll be interesting to see how both companies vie for superiority, but I'll be over here playing Everybody's/Mario Golf...
Now we just need 2K to make a soccer game to also take on EA!
I'm still waiting for Super Monkey Ball PGA Golf! The original Monkey Ball crazy Golf game, on Gamecube, was local co-op perfection.
2k is owned by Take Two and if they have anything to go by with the way they've casionilized NBA 2k then it will go the same way.
Nether company is one I would like making sports games but then again they would all would so it anyway.
Cant wait for NFL 2k22 ? EA can f right off then
I really enjoyed the Tiger Woods games back on the PS2 but haven't really got into one since. I'll keep an eye on these but that Mario Golf is looking a lot of fun
I genuinely thought 2k had acquired the license.
I think itll be like Fifa/PES though and theyll both be able to exist in their own space.
Previous EA one was more arcadey so I expect new one will be the same and 2k be more sim-like.
Wasn't their Rory McIlroy game rubbish? I'd say 2K has a strong advantage given they have the Tiger Woods branding and a developer that has been getting better and better at making golf games.
@carlos82 Yeah, '04-06 was where it really peaked; I loved the RPG-lite elements to upgrading your golfer, and I really wish they'd implement something similar to the newer games, (apparently Mario Golf does) and what would absolutely nail it for me would be some sort of cross-game save progression, so you're not starting fresh with each new game.
This one type of game where quality won't nessecarily be the winner.
Due to nature of player and course licenses who each game gets will decide which certain players will buy.
And show you a store where you can buy new clubs and balls for a small fee and even get your name on your own ball lol
News from EA reinforces my point: EA will exclusively have all 4 majors.
