More Brand New Games to Launch for Free with PS Plus

I think it would be a really smart move from now on if they released all their upcoming PS Studios multiplayer stuff on Plus for the first few months.

Even better than that Ratchet and Clank is being given away free to all playstation owners to keep for good in March.

Sure it was on PSPlus previously but some may have missed it for whatever reason, and only an arse would complain about such a good game being given away.

@redd214 I thought about that yesterday! If they secured that as a PS Plus launch game for PS5 and PS4, that would be nuts. I hope either that, Little Devil Inside, and/or Goodbye Volcano High is among them.

Ryan mentions Sony "as a publisher" there and they're not publishing Kena but neither did they in case of Rocket League, Fall Guys or Bugsnax.

@Hyperluminal this may be a stupid question but I'm not familiar with the ratchet and clank series. Is the one they are releasing for free on the 1st March not the same one that is free for PS+ subscribers on PS5?

@Corc11 it is but this time it's free for everyone on PlayStation (not just subscribers and/or PS5 owners)

Kena for March, Returnal for May perhaps?

@Grumblevolcano I don't think they'd be taking pre-orders for Returnal if it was coming to PS Plus at launch. Technically they could refund them like they did with DAS but doing it twice in a row is not a great look.

@Leon_93 i have both consoles trust me xbox is better in everything. Less on menu.

To be honest, I don’t really care about getting games as they launch. I have a long backlog and am currently playing through the entire Yakuza series at 100hrs plus per platinum, so anything in my given on plus I wouldn’t play for several months anyway. As such, I’d rather have 4 older games than 3 newer ones, or whatever.

kena : bridge of spirits is the only thing i can think of in the immediate future - and it's currently not available on pre-order on the PS5 store.

@Vladspartan I also have both and can confirm this is false. I use my XSX to access gamepass for demos now and if I like the games I buy them on my PS for a better experience...

@leucocyte @redd214 yeah I've seen hints on Twitter about this and the fact it's supposedly out next month with no digital pre-order and apparently no planned physical release it has some credibility. It would be awesome for Plus owners if true.

Not really a Xbox alternative with the standard of games going for free but hopefully the quality of future games will rival it. Prefer the PS Collection, really decent games in that. Ratchet and Clank news is great too.

@Vladspartan I have both and they are both awesome with different pros and cons over each other. In the end both will have a collection of great games to enjoy and I’ll enjoy them without getting hung up over which square box is “better”

I've been playing Control on the PS5 and have enjoyed it. I never would have bought it but thanks to Plus I can. If they ever have a Control 2 I might make that a day 1 purchase.

Seriously, when is he leaving SIE. He is ending Playstation Games exclusivity. How many Microsoft games you see on Playstation. And about new games on PS Plus, earlier he said its just not feasible to launch on PS PLUS for free as games development is costly.

Must admit if all ps games start appearing on PC along with all MS games already doing so then it’s difficult to justify buying the consoles ahead of a PC as I’ve spent about £1000 on both these machines already. The fact you can still use the controller of choice does make PC a more realistic option long term. Possibly next gen I will end up doing just that

This seems like an extra slap in the face, personally. So most of us aren't able to buy a PS5 no matter how badly we want one, and they're giving free games away to the select few who have one already? I don't get the logic here.

@get2sammyb I’ve been meaning to ask for ages how this works. So if Destruction Allstars was set to be £69.99 and now it’s free for PS Plus then how do the Developers get money? Do they get a percentage of PS Plus subscriptions for a set period of time? Do Sony give them a cash payout? I’d love for anyone to tell me the answer to this!

@Alpine021 not a direct answer to your question but I imagine developers get paid a negotiated fee for delivering a product - it's up to the game's publisher to make these deals with Sony. Of course sometimes the developer and the publisher are the same entity (like Ember Lab for Kena) but in this specific case it's Sony so they don't really have to worry about it

@Vladspartan xbox is pointless if you have PC. I have ps5, switch and a pc.
PS always great exclusives as nintendo, xbox have very few good games and the good 1s are on PC.
