Update: SNK has dropped its long awaited King of Fighters XV trailer (which was previously delayed). It's rather short, but together with the screenshots that we've included below, it's pretty much our first look at the game, which is aiming for a 2021 launch. The developer promises more information very soon — next week, if all goes to plan.
Original Story: A small selection of screenshots from King of Fighters XV have been obtained Gematsu after they were mistakenly attached to a recent press release. It's fair to assume that SNK was planning on releasing these pictures alongside the big gameplay reveal, which was originally scheduled for the 6th January before it was postponed.
In any case, these screenshots provide our first real look at King of Fighters XV. They show off a number of characters, including Kyo, Mai, and Benimaru. From these images alone, it's immediately clear that the upcoming brawler is far prettier than its predecessor.
Indeed, while King of Fighters XIV gets a lot right in the gameplay department, its visual style has always been met with heavy criticism — even before its launch back in 2016. It's nice to see that SNK has really pushed forward with this upcoming project — just as it did with Samurai Shodown.
The screenshots also reveal that King of Fighters XV is targeting a 2021 release. Are you looking forward to this fighter? Assemble your best tag team in the comments section below.

Man, I love Benimaru. One of the most ridiculous characters in a fighting game.
I am really excited about this one! I’ve bee playing SNK fighters since the 90’s. Does anyone happen to know if these are still Japanese developed games? I know the company has been purchased a couple of times, if memory serves.
@nessisonett it's Iori Yagami for me. That maniacal victory laugh.
This looks pretty nice!
Nice! I was hoping for a leak, and this fits the bill.
@SLitz1979 SNK is still the same company it's always been since the 90s, as I understand it. Japanese company, but recently a Saudi Arabian prince bought a majority of the company's shares, that's all. I honestly doubt it will change a single thing about the company.
Looking good, got my girl Mai in there and I’m sure my boy Terry is right around the corner. What I really wish for is the American Sports Team to make a comeback. I want Shermie and Chizuru back as well.
@PhhhCough
I’m by no means an Iori main, but he was always a fun character to play.
My main KOF team always involves Mai. She’s my one constant.
@stinkyx Good to hear. Thanks for letting me know!
@stinkyx Perhaps they’ll include Mortal Kombat style fatalities against journalists.
@nessisonett Daaaaaamn, lol. Yeah, I've only heard bad things about that guy.
YOOOO KYO AND BENIMARU LOOK CLEAN AS HELL
I LOVE THIS ARTSTYLE
Athena's costume is what I'll be interested in the most.
ugh more cell shaded graphics, can we get a fighter that doesn't rinse and repeat every year =/
Tizoc please
@Papasears
Mortal Kombat 11
Injustice 2
MvCI
Street Fighter V
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid
Soul Calibur VI
Tekken 7
Smash Ultimate
The literal KoF game before this one
Really you've got way more options than you realize
@TheFrenchiestFry yea i know but bored of those as well =/
Yeah, it looks pretty clean in comparison to KOF14. Hope they bring Rock Howard back.
Any SNK fighter is a must buy for me. Still gotta get Samurai Shodown, though.
I was searching for " SFIV gameplay" and ended up here...oh, wait...
@Papasears new Gulity Gear also coming soon and looking good
Needs more cleavage and midriff
I'm sure the gameplay won't disappoint but have to admit it looks a little lacklustre compared to Guilty Gear Strive.
@SegaBlueSky Of course it does not,tbh no company have yet to replicate Team Reds beautiful visual style, and i like it like that,I love Samsho 2019 visuals, yet it did not look like Guilty Gear.
Plus diversity in artsytle is what I really like about the figthing game genre(Every genre is going photo realistic nowadays).
@rachetmarvel Diversity is great I agree, didn't meant to suggest that it should look like GG. Just think this looks a little generic. Unless you're a big KoF fan I don't think it looks like anything exciting or new, and doesn't have as much artistic flair as its rivals.
@SegaBlueSky I remember when KOF was the standard, graphically they seem to be getting left behind. I’m still having a blast playing the older entries, anyway.
It will be interesting to see how they address any single player content, and how many season passes they release. I know that making fighting games is very taxing on the animators but I miss the good old days of complete packages.
@nessisonett Benimaru might as well be Ryu when compared to Voldo or something.
@SimoneBelmont What! The old days were even worse with "complete packages." For example, most of the King of Fighters sequels barely added anything new from entry to entry, and so instead of buying an entirely new $60 game every year, you can now just get $15 to $30 character packs. If KoF 14 was released in the 90s/00s, the 2 DLC packs would've been KoF15 and KoF16, lol.
Other prime examples of this are MK3/UMK3/MKT and of course all the Street Fighter 2 and Alpha games.
Also, in my opinion, most fighting games these days are "complete" on release (except SF5). Tekken 7, GGXrd, KoF14, MK11...they all could've stopped at the base game and never released any DLC and they would've been "complete" $60 games, easily. People act like they're entitled to legacy DLC characters ("this character should've been in the game to begin with!") but forget that this isn't SSBU where Nintendo basically copy-pasted 58 characters from the previous game without changing anything...returning characters are all built from the ground up!
Anyway, just my take!
@stinkyx I always found the quality of fighting games to be better from earlier generations. It’s hard when you’ve been spoiled on stuff like 3rd Strike or KOF Ultimate Match.
These days it’s more about how to divvy up the season passes. All the early adopters for SFV, for example, paid close to $200 after all the DLCs and base game. Then of course they slap you in the face if you are an early adopter and sell the Champion edition for $25.
That’s mainly the stance I’m coming from, I’m sure this game is fine, just curious to see how they handle the additional content that really should be there from the start.
@Voltan yea i seen that, reminds me of the SF3 which was awesome. Gives me a reason to spend some doe on a arcade stick =)
@SweetSummerShunv are yoy aiming to buy this game for ps5?
@Zaros Since this game's going to be on PC as well, I'll buy it there, though I may grab the console copy as well down the line when it's discounted.
