Update: We've since been informed that this supposed leak is almost certainly a fake. On closer inspection, there are a couple of small inconsistencies in the text. We told you not to get your hopes up!
Original Story: Here's a juicy new rumour that we pray is real. Apparently, an Amazon listing for something called 'Red Dead Redemption The Outlaws Collection' was spotted earlier today. Twitter account Gaming Leaks & Rumors snapped supposed screenshots of the product page before it was removed.
The collection includes both a PS5-enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption 2 — complete with ray tracing and faster load times — and a full remake of the original Red Dead Redemption. On the subject of the latter, the listing reads: "Immerse yourself in this faithful remake of Red Dead Redemption inspired by the iconic 2010 original. Featuring a new and familiar set of missions and faces."
It also has a release date of the 31st December 2021, but if the listing is real, then this is almost certainly a placeholder.
Too good to be true? Not necessarily. Let's not forget that a large portion of Red Dead Redemption's open world was recreated in Red Dead Redemption 2, so it could be argued that the foundations of a remake are already in place. But again, this kind of rumour is relatively easy to fake — you just need some decent photoshop skills and a general knowledge of how product listings work.

Absolutely fake but would be nice wouldn’t it? My mum loved 2 but couldn’t really be arsed after about 5 hours with the first one as it’s just dated beyond all belief but a remake in 2’s engine would be fantastic.
I would be there day 1 if real. Red dead redemption 1 is among my favourite games ever. A remake would be lovely

May be fake now but im sure it will be real eventually. People forget games like Red Dead Redemption and also Fallout 3 and other games were "remastered" for Xbox One X via Backwards Compatible update. Some may not call them a "remaster" perhaps but side by side Ps3 to X1X got me fooled.
I want GTA 4 remastered so i can stop playing it with texture mods on my gaming pc.

Even if it were real, I doubt I would wanna replay rdr. John seems so shallow compared to Arthur. Rdr 2 with raytracing would be very cool though. Ah well, it's fake anyway

Even though I know this is fake, I’m hoping that there could be a shred of truth somewhere. Perhaps not this but that RDR is coming back as a pack.
Even though it's fake, it's surprising to me that a remaster of the first with the engine of the second isn't a reality. So much of the needed work is already there in the prequel and going by reactions to stuff like this it would sell well. Come on Rockstar

@kyleforrester87 Please do, I don't say this lightly but for me it's not just a great game but great art as well.
It's not a hipsters game, it's not trying to be modern and 'cool'. In many ways it's a game aimed at older gamers, those without fast reaction times who will obtain as much joy from catching a big fish or a three star pelt as engaging in shoot outs at the not-so Ok Corral.
It's main protagonist is one of the greatest and most real characters in gaming history, the camp is full of memorable characters and it's in it's quiet moments that the game truly shines.
I recently finished a second playthrough and enjoyed it just as much as the first perhaps more so as I knew when to take my time and when to rush forward to the next mission.
The only game I played last gen that is comparable for me is The Witcher 3. Both feel like you're playing a lengthy novel or a premium HBO TV show. RDR2 just has the edge for two reasons. 1) I enjoy traveling and exploring 1899 more than the Continent an 2) Geralt is a bad ass but Arthur is a much more rounded and sympathetic character. Controversial to some but that's how I feel.
Hopefully they'll provide a free upgraded version for PS5 but I suspect that at some point I'll be buying it a second time and I will do so without reservation!

@Col_McCafferty I got fairly far the first time I played it, about 20-25 hours. I really enjoyed just poking around the world, but the missions by comparison seemed way too on the rails and regimented, putting it at odds with the rest of the experience. I hear it’s absolutely worth pushing through to the end mind you. I loved RDR1, it was no better design wise of course but coming a decade earlier I was less fatigued by open-world nonsense.
Plus it really, really made my PS4 take off.

@kyleforrester87 I think the key is to not rush through the missions, do some exploring, help (or hinder) the strangers you meet along the way, get into the rhythm of the camp and the family that is the Van Der Linde gang.
Personally the whole 'on the rails' stuff never bothered me, on my second playthrough I experienced enough difference for it to feel both fresh and familiar.
Some on here might argue the game would've been better if it had been some tight 20-25 hour linear campaign but frankly I think they're nuts!

They really should remake Red Dead Redemption 1.
If it doesn't include Red Dead Revolver as well, what is the actual point? They could even include a demo of the Capcom version which was slated for a 2002 release but never saw the light of day.
@Col_McCafferty I didn’t really understand the ‘boring’ complaints with RDR2 tbh, it’s slow-paced at times but I found it deeply engrossing. Bizarrely, the pacing most resembled a JRPG with a long campaign that had linear story sections broken up with a massive map, loads of side content and the like. I dunno, it had a bit of everything in there and it took me about 3 months to complete but it’s probably the best game on PS4 alongside God of War, Yakuza 0 and Persona 5 for me.
@Col_McCafferty RDR2 is a game that, for me, improves in my memory with the passage of time. I think fondly of the time I spent playing through it, and recognize the greatness of its open world. There simply isn’t another game with the amount of detail it has, that I know of. However, while I was playing it I did feel ready for it to end. The ending, and particularly the epilogue, seemed to overstay its welcome for me. That would be my only complaint.
The missions, linear or not, were a fine companion to the rest of the game which was incredibly open and a real sandbox.
Shame this turned out to be a fake, I would have bought it!
@nessisonett Probably because it's not flash or full of gimmicks and doesn't take place in a fantasy setting or some futuristic sci-fi wonderland. It's very old school and for me that's a huge part of the appeal.
@Th3solution HERE BE SPOILERS!!!! I can perfectly understand why some gamers were done with RDR2 once they completed Arthur's story but for me the epilogue is crucial as it shows why Arthur made those choices. Initially it's what he would have wanted for John, Abigail and Jack but John didn't listen to Arthur, he did look back and sought revenge. As gamers we actually want John to go after Micah and finally get to kill the SOB ourselves and boy is it satisfying but also, in a weird way, anticlimactic. It's meant to feel that way, one could argue in that final shoot out that RDR2 shows the futility of revenge in one brief scene whereas it takes The Last of Us Part II almost an entire game to do the same. One could but not me.

Plus I loved the building of the house scene and seeing the farm grow. It was something worth fighting for. Alas we all know it's not meant to last but the game definitely gives you a happy ending.

@Col_McCafferty That’s an interesting take. I probably need to play the game again with a new mindset and perspective. I guess I didn’t really invest my emotional energy into the epilogue the first time around but I can see that message now. Similar things could be said of RDR1’s epilogue, although I remember feeling that it was a heavier conclusion with personal impact. But it’s been so long, it’s hard to know what’s nostalgia and what’s real 😅. It would be awesome to have a remaster of the first game.
I hope it's true for the fans.
I honestly don't know why R* seems so adverse to do anything with RDR1. By next year they will have rerelease GVAV across three generations of console...but RDR1 is still essentially stuck on PS3/360 (I know it's playable via BC on xbox and PSNow), and they seem to hate the idea of porting it to PC where it would sell another 10 million copies.
Couple that with RDR2's insistence on being far more sim-ish than the first RDR, and it kinda feels like they hate how popular RDR1 was.
