It's official: the PlayStation 5 is an absolute monster. Speculation has been rampant that the PS5 is physically huge, and as it turns out, it really is a massive machine. In fact, not only is it the largest PlayStation console in history, it's the largest console full stop.
Sony has released the official dimensions of the PS5, so you can finally measure your setup and see if you need to make adjustments. So, laying horizontally, PS5 is 390mm wide, 104mm tall, and 260mm deep. PS5 Digital Edition is the same, but 12mm shorter. These measurements do not include the base or the "largest projections", which means the PS5's, er, fins, or whatever you want to call them.
For comparison, the PS4 Pro measures 295mm wide, 55mm tall, and 327mm deep. If you want a more visual point of reference, The Verge has put together some size comparison charts, and they're pretty conclusive.
In case you're wondering, PS5 will weigh 4.5kg (3.9kg for the Digital Edition). It's a big ol' console.

Holy crap, that's huge. Ugh, not so sure about getting it now, just why? Why Sony, what were you thinking? All you had to do was say this back in JUNE, we would have been fine. I have no doubts it will be a good console in a couple years but now...mmm not so much. They gave me the impression that for once, there won't be the first year drought, but ok I guess.

Yes it is big. However at 4.5 kilo it is less than the 5 kilo PS3 fat. The size difference going from my PS2 slim to a PS3 fat was quite remarkable. The PS5 will be like a wider and taller PRO. 4 inches wider, 2 inches taller, and 2 inches less deep in the horizontal position. Also in black the PS5 will probably look smaller.
In the horizontal position the PS5 will fit where my PRO sits so size is not an issue. When will black be available is my issue.
I made a cardboard mockup after the conference just to get an idea and yeah it's definitely a thicc boy!

@tinCAT-zero I know who you speak of, and I've reported him plenty of times. That's the best you can do. I'm a mod over at NLife, and it's a lot more helpful for the staff if you report abusive comments rather than engage in a flame war yourself. The latter won't solve anything. There's always an ignore button, and I recommend using it if certain users bother you.
Anyway, the point is, @BlueOcean hasn't said anything wrong in this comment section. So there's no need to bring whatever discussion you two had over here.

I have a New 3DS, Wii U, PS4, Xbox One X and a Switch so it's not like I have nothing to play on. You wouldn't have got the notification if I didn't write a different comment, sorry if that bothered you. Regarding your advice, that... user literally insults me every time, all I do is reply without insulting him and report him. I wish he ignored me but he likes doing what he does or has nothing better to do, apparently. I like people that prove me wrong and discuss but he just insults and that's not really funny and I can't ignore him because I have to report that behaviour. So until he ignores me or he's banned, there's nothing I can do. It's a bit sad you are friendly to the one flaming and insulting, though.

This is completely unnecessary. No console should be this big. And making it larger by adding the fins is just plain ridiculous. It's a box to play games on not a trophy. I prefer Microsoft's approach of trying to make the smallest footprint possible.

PS5 is 15.375" wide, 4.125" tall, and 10.25" deep. PS5 Digital Edition is the same, but 0.5" shorter.

The PS5 and XSX are pretty much gaming PCs and heat like crazy. I'd rather have something slightly bigger than a PS4 pro sitting next to my TV in silence than hearing the fan louder than my games.

@Rhaoulos I mean that's something that's very difficult to get much of an impression of from raw numbers alone. I was buying a room fan in the heat wave earlier this year and the number of dB is kinda meaningless without knowing the pitch of the noise it makes, and then how that carries is going to depend a lot on where you put it, what surrounds it, and what your ambient sound levels are like. I'd hope it's better than the previous gen, because my brother-in-law's ps4 is a lot louder then my gaming PC.
@theheadofabroom Thanks - I did look it up. I could theoretically have both Series X and PS5 sit horizontally, but I am afraid of proper air flow. It's not right up against the sides of my entertain center, but I don't know if 1 inch on either side is enough.
I will probably take a shelf out and stand both consoles up vertically next to each other.
@GamingFan4Lyf so I used to keep a full ATX PC on an enclosed shelf, and an inch is fine as long as you've got decent airflow around the shelf. With my PC I wired in an extra couple of 14cm fans which I put at either side of the shelf, one sucking air in and the other blowing it out. It was fairly effective, and you could often feel a decent temperature difference between sides when the system was under load.
You could almost certainly do something similar with a couple of USB fans to keep airflow to your consoles.
@theheadofabroom My entertainment center has 4 compartments (2 compartments on each side with a removable shelf) underneath but the back is like 80% open in each compartment - there is a wooden strip down the center with a hole in it for cable management purposes.
My current consoles have about 10 inches (254mm) or so of empty space above them. There is about...I dunno, 5 inches (127mm) of back space before reaching the back of entertainment center.

@AJ1 Sony hasn't released any photos with other consoles beside it for people to compare the real size and the actual dimensions that you mention are for the thinnest part of the console and don't include the base.

The picture I posted is accurate because it takes the USB port and disc slot as reference but if someone makes a new one with official measurements I will love to see it because Sony hasn't shown anything or provide the measurements of the whole console. The real measurements of the whole console remain unknown because of the very irregular shape:

@KidBoruto No problem . Right now I have a Wii U, a PS4 and an Xbox One X on the TV cabinet so still plenty of space available.
Whilst i think i have a space on my media centre, there isnt much space around the sides. So my big concern will be around airflow and heat distribution. Let's hope Sony have cracked it this time around.
In this day and age, to build something with a deliberate excess of plastic strikes me as ridiculous.
Xbox - We've built the smallest, most power efficient console we could possibly build. Twice.
Sony - Just keep adding plastic until we say stop and it's weird enough. Try to pretend we're still cool like we were in 1995!!! **** the planet, our console needs ****ING pointless plastic fins!!! More fins! More plastic! Plastic fins make it go faster! Let's make it less powerful but way bigger and more wasteful! FINS!!!

@KidBoruto I have no idea about shops in USA. I bought one of those TV cabinets without board at the bottom, better for cables management and air circulation.
