Update: Ghost of Tsushima patch 1.05 is now live around the world, weighing in at 2.78GB. Get it downloaded and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
Original Article: A new update for Ghost of Tsushima will be released today (that's the 27th July if you're reading this in the future) on PlayStation 4. Patch 1.05 brings an all-new 'Lethal' difficulty level to the game, alongside a 'Lower Intensity Combat' accessibility option designed for those who may have trouble with the often strict timing required to succeed in battle. The update will also add some welcome text settings.
You can find the full patch notes below.
Ghost of Tsushima Update 1.05 Patch Notes
New difficulty level: Lethal
- Enemy weapons are more deadly, but Jin’s katana is also more deadly
- Enemies are more aggressive in combat
- Enemies detect you faster
- Tighter Parry and Dodge windows
Patch 1.05 will also include the following new options in the accessibility menu:
Lower Intensity Combat
Lower intensity mode is meant to maintain the heart and feel of Ghost of Tsushima combat while relaxing several timing-specific elements. Combat is less intense, giving you more time to react. Stealth settings are more forgiving, and enemies take longer to detect you.
- Most enemy attacks which are normally unblockable become blockable when Lower Intensity is enabled. Blocking with L1 will keep you safe from more attacks than standard combat, though some attacks must still be dodged.
- Enemies break off their attack combos after damaging you, giving you a chance to recover before the next wave of attacks. In addition, your heavy attacks will interrupt attacks from Brutes, giving you another way to stop their combos.
- Enemies will not attack you while you’re using Resolve to heal
- Enemy awareness builds more slowly, giving you more time to recover after being spotted
Text changes
- Large Text option: Increases text size of subtitles, mission objectives and interact prompts by 150% when enabled
- Added option to turn speaker name off when subtitles are enabled
- New subtitle text color options in addition to white: Yellow, Blue, Red, Green
Patch 1.05 also includes additional bug fixes.
There's no word on a New Game + mode yet -- perhaps the title's most requested feature -- but it's great to see Sucker Punch providing so much post-launch support so quickly.
Will you be using any of these new additions? Try not to be too lethal in the comments section below.

Great patch, gives hardcore players something new to try and those who might be having trouble a better way to experience the game. GG Sucker Punch.
Glad to hear there's a harder difficulty setting. Hard is way too easy and though I feel like a badass tearing through the enemies, I don't feel like it all go wrong at any given moment.
I dont understand why changing the subtitle size isnt a standard feature now? Some game you have too put your head against the screen too see something. 😆
@ShogunRok But i do think the size of subtitles should be a standard now come on how hard is that too put it in the game from day one.
I always have to laugh at how different people are with things. Standard difficultly is totally pushing me to my limits. Its as hard as I could ever take with a game. And there are people who say that HARD mode is too easy, lol. And the Devs have added something beyond that now. I just can't react that fast, and I die quite a lot.
I felt like it was too easy on hard early on so I purposely started not using skill points to up the challenge.
@Unlucky13 best thing to do is not worry about what others are doing or what they think. Choose the difficulty level that makes the game the most fun for you. After all, that's what gaming should be about - fun.
Honestly I ws just thinking yesterday how this game had been out a week already w/o any updates and I was very impressed, God of War had DAILY updates for 2 weeks.
That said, these are 2 improvements I really appreciate - easy mode and font size - so I'm glad there was a update.
Still may wait for a BF sale as I work on my backlog this fall but we'll see.
All we need now is NG+ and hopefully some camera improvements. Is there any DLC planned for this game? I’m assuming not.
“Added option to turn speaker name off when subtitles are enabled”.
This is most welcome - I found it a bit off-putting to see the names with subtitles on.
Most chatter is between two people, so it’s really not hard to figure out who is saying what. It makes for a more filmic presentation, glad it’s been included.
i hope they add more stuff later, like armour, katana's and the like. I finished the story yesterday and i have almost everything else done, but the game is still so much fun.
@Nightcrawler71 as of yet, i dont think so, but let's wait and see. It would be cool if they did an Undead Nightmare type DLC.
Awesome that they’re adding a harder difficulty. As I’ve become more powerful, I’m finding Hard is still a bit too easy. Lethal sounds right up my alley!
Well done Sucker Punch. 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼
@Unlucky13 I am playing on normal. Sometimes it is easy and sometimes it is hard to get through the battles. The spears are really challenging.
@Nightcrawler71 No word on DLC or anything like that yet.
@Unlucky13 Are you getting all the supplies you can? Are you using them to upgrade your sword? Are finding as many "hidden" spots as you can to get the right charms? Are you putting your technique points in areas that suit you? Are you doing enough side quests? Not that all of this matters individually, but I'm usually the same way wondering how people can think Hard is easy, but in this game, I agree. Since the game isn't level based, I've just done as much as I could (literally!) to make Jin better. They really give you the opportunity to make it as easy or as hard on yourself as you want it to be.
Why provide subtitles if it is too small to read? Dying Light, i am currently playing, has tiny subtitles that is near useless. Large text options should be standard in all games.
Why do you need that "lower intensity combat" setting?
If you are too bad at the game or too lazy to learn how to play, then use "easy difficulty"
I let my nephew have a go on this at the weekend on easy and he cleared two checkpoints out easy with no real experience playing the game so I’m sure anybody can do this on easy /general difficulty haha!
Not gonna lie. I've played lots of games with parrying and "perfect parry" mechanics, but this game is giving me the most challenge with getting a perfect parry. I guess I just don't have the kind of reaction time I used to.
I’m happy to see the new difficulty option. Now we just need NG+ to accompany it. It would make for a great way to play the game again.
@jamberino93 My nephew beat Gundyr from Dark Souls 3 on a couple of tries and he never played a Souls game before.
Most games are not difficult, and certainly not AAA games. People are too lazy to actually learn how to play, they don't want to learn enemy patterns, they don't want to read stats and also they don't want to die. I don't know, they probably just want to press x to see a movie. And there's also game journalist.
@OmegaStriver yeah, I've also started not using any charms to help make it harder too. Hopefully this difficulty helps. It does seem a problem with open world games where it's way too easy to become overpowered.
@Strumtrulescent Oh yeah totally. I always play games very slowly and carefully, finding everything that I can, and exploring every corner before I move on. I did absolutely everything on the first map before I moved onto the second section, and now I've done most things on the lower half of the second one. I have all of my weapons and pouches maxed out, and most of my armor, including two sets that I've gotten in Act 2. If I hadn't, I'd probably die in most battles, lol. The enemies in the second act are no joke. Regular ones will rough me up if I'm not careful. I wish that I was able to carry more throwing weapons and arrows on me, because I run out quickly, and the further into the game that I get, the fewer that the enemies drop when I kill them. And the timing on the stand offs gets harder and harder the further I go. At the end of Act 1, I was getting it right about 75% of the time. Now, its about 25%.
@phil_j I wish that the charms did a lot more than they do!
@Unlucky13 There are a couple weapons that make this game a cake walk. They're completely busted, and those two weapons are the bow and the kunai, they're unlockable and will either straight up kill an enemy with a headshot or or stagger or kill with just a press of the button, respectively. The other weapons are good too, but those stand out as being the most overpowered, and you can exploit the hell out of them!
Lethal difficulty sounds really great, and just what I need from this game. I've been meaning to go back into the game, but I've been playing Rogue Company a lot lately.
I'm glad I put it on the back burner. Time to crank up the difficulty!
Need to be able to change time of day, and new game plus.
@Unlucky13 only souls freaks will find hard difficulty easy.
So long as they dont go adding any more photo mode options. I would never be able to progress in the story given the hours im spending with it already 😂
Very excited about the harder difficulty😃
@Constable_What Without the kunai, there is absolutely no way that I could defeat the various Brutes, or the ones that set their weapons on fire. They just ragdoll me to death otherwise. That weapon has made the game playable for me.
@Dreman99 Yeah, I would never even attempt that game. I had a few friends that told me about it, and I just laughed. Not anywhere close to my deal. Tsushima, HZD, and AC are about as action oriented as I get.
@Makina Please stop trying to Gatekeep. If the devs want to add accessibility options they can. YOUR judgement of how hard or easy a game is is exactly that, yours.
I personally find the game quite easy on Hard, but I know many many gamers that would not.
Not everyone can or should "git gud".
>Not everyone can or should "git gud".
So, learn to play the game is now "git gud"?
No wonder why games needs extra-easy mode nowadays...
@Makina Relax man, someone else playing it on a lower difficulty doesn't take away from the fact that you beat something on Lethal/Legendary/Super mode.
I'm personally just wanting new game+ and the ability to hide the quiver/bow completely.
Given the way the combat works in this game, it was always gonna be too easy on easy mode.
I wish they'd add subs for NPC chatter.
I would also love to be able to change the time of day. I sometimes cheat by fast traveling far away and then back again. There are lots of things that I only want to do in the daylight.
I like feeling a bit over powered as it makes me feel like lone wolf from the babycart movies..i am playing this game for the story and exploration and i am loving it..still on act 1 and in no hurry to finish it just to be the guy who shouts "first".also find the crickets at graveyards as they change your flutes music which if you read the hints...wait for it...lets you change the weather/time of day...
Had a quick 30 minute session on lethal. Much better.
@Makina
I picked up Dark Souls 3 a few months back. Having not really got on with Bloodborne (despite really wanting to like it and loving the aesthetic) I felt this was likely a mistake. When I met a boss about two minutes into the game there was a sigh of disappointment. These games really aren’t for me, perhaps it’s an issue of patience, but they just seem too hard. I don’t think the combat clicks with me - I don’t find the precision I feel the game demands of me in the controls. Yet to progress past first bosses in both games.
Even Lethal difficulty is way too easy. I'm having to play with one hand behind my back & the screen off just to give myself some extra challenge.
Seriously though, Medium is fine for me. My gaming skills are nowhere near as good as they used to be, & despite having some experience with Dark Souls / Bloodbourne, I'm enjoying this less punishing tale & taking in the sights inbetween stabbing and slashing ^_^
Looking forward to that New Game + feature!
Don't particularly care about the difficulty changes, but I'll grab that text size up option until I can finally see an eye doctor.
NG+ is an absolute must. I would also like to have a few cosmetic options. As when you select the option to throw items instead of using the bow, the quiver is not visible. Furthermore, a swordsmith where you can customize your own sword, hilt, habaki (the sheat of the katana), engravings etc. Also, the opportunity to customize the wardrobe further.
The new update was greatly appreciated, at a 100percent completion with my third playthrough and still not tired of it. The extra difficulty is still a bit too easy. Though a welcomed addition.
Great game
PS: Can't wait for the DLC
