Update: Oh, apparently the original translation of the poll was wrong. It was actually Cloud alone that won the vote -- and by some distance. Source @aitaikimochi has updated her findings along with the number of votes each character received.
The top three -- that's Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith -- were actually miles ahead of the competition. There's almost a 1000 vote gap between Aerith in third, and Jessie in fourth.

Original Story: Recently, Japanese magazine Famitsu hosted a popularity poll for the characters of Final Fantasy VII Remake, and the results are... Kind of predictable, but still quite interesting. As reported by @aitaikimochi on Twitter, Cloud and Tifa actually tied for the top spot, as the pair received an equal amount of votes.
Aerith followed just behind in second place, while Jessie -- barely even a character in the original Final Fantasy VII -- ended up in third. You can find the full top ten (or technically nine) below:

I love Jessie she is awsome but Cloud and Tifa are my favorites. But Jessie and Cloud would be awsome.

@ApostateMage I found him obnoxiously over-the-top in the first few hours, but he definitely grew on me.
C’mon Rob, it is a top ten. If Cloud and Tifa share first Aerith is third and so on. You can’t have to 2 characters before and still be second.

I think Barret might be my favourite, he's brilliant in the remake. Jessie is pretty cool as well. I think maybe Sephiroth was introduced too early but we will see what the sequel brings.
Tifa was an OP BEAST in this game.

Seeing Jessie and Barret above Sephiroth is pretty funny, but well-deserved (both are much better characters in the remake).
Zack at no.10 is kinda surprising given he appears for about a minute, but I guess his old popularity helped keep him in there (albeit barely).
I think the biggest takeaway from this is just how successful their efforts were with making Jessie a likeable character (she's basically the most popular character outside the three heavy-weights)and I'm curious if this'll have an effect on or be a sign of how the character will be treated in Part 2.
Sephiroth at 5? I guess they did write him kinda bad in the remake.
Red XIII all the way, baby! Can't wait to main my favorite talking magic-lion-dude when Part 2 comes out.
