There's a lot of nostalgia for the PlayStation 1's classic jewel casing and the boxart which came with them. The black labelling stands proudly on any shelf, so much so that some PlayStation fans are bringing the physical casing back with custom projects. Reddit user byllogan has turned their PlayStation 4 game collection into a homage to the console which started it all by making PS1 boxart for each title. Just take a look at the results for yourself below -- it's pretty phenomenal.
As you can tell, we've got Bloodborne, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare alongside the likes of Final Fantasy VII Remake and PS4 remake MediEvil. NieR: Automata joins the party with some stunning art while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition sticks to the popular logo. Our favourite detail has to be the fact that the Resident Evil 3 boxart sports a sticker highlighting the inclusion of Resident Evil Resistance. That's classic PS1 marketing right there. Marvel's Spider-Man and Until Dawn round out the classic collection.
Which one is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.

Resident Evil 2 is great ! Real old school vibes here
This is so awesome.
Yeah these are great.
So much nostalgia seeing these old boxes from the PS1. This old gamer just shed a tear.
I still have a copy of Metal Gear Solid and Dino Crisis 1&2 in near perfect condition.
Oddly enough I don't see a single "1" anywhere on that packaging, yet people continue to incorrectly call the PlayStation, PS1. Of course there was a PSOne, but that wasn't a generational name rather a new, mobile version of the PlayStation.
It's also infuriating when people call the PlayStation PSX, as if they don't know the PSX exists, or when they call Xbox OG Xbox.. there's no need to call it that when there's only one to begin with. Art looks cool though.
I love these. I've been buying some cases like this from a seller on ebay for a few years now. These ones look far nicer though.
RE2 and Bloodborne look the best from the ones above for me.
Resident evil 7 looks amazing.
I love the Nier Automata one.
@GoblinKing86 People call it the PS1 because it's the first PlayStation, and it's easier to call it that rather than simply the PlayStation (where people might assume you mean PS generally, or another PS console), retroactively applying the later console naming conventions to it. Same thing applies to Xbox, except for obvious reasons they can no longer call the first Xbox the Xbox 1.
Also, PSX was the codename for the PS1, that was later reused for the PS2 DVR. People were calling it that long before the actual PSX system would release.
Odd thing to be infuriated about.
I'm still hoping for the PS5 megaton announcement of full native backwards compatibility of all PlayStation games, then I can dust off my actual ps1 collection for a real nostalgia hit. Come on Sony sort it out for gods sake!
That’s cool. Although I’m not crazy about cd jewel cases due to their scratch ability and propensity to scratch, I love the size and wish all PS and XBox games came in boxes of that size.
I have 563 physical games. 164 for PS4 alone. That extra box space adds up quickly.
In fact my most annoying box choice recently was Nintendo picking the Switch box style instead of sticking to the 3DS box style. I would have been fine with them being that thin (in fact welcome it,) but the tallness kills me!
Side note: I have only 22 XBox One physical game’s, but I love how those boxes are just a tiny bit thinner than PS4 equivalents.
The day of game manuals, I miss you.
@GoblinKing86 “ or when they call Xbox OG Xbox..”
I see your point but I feel there is need to somehow denote you are specifically talking about the first model vs the brand. Especially with the XBox, since their model names are so freaking all over the place.
Blimey i forgot about those PS1 chunky plastic cases!
I had cardboard N64 game cartridges boxes which fell apart in no time.
Hi there. That Shadow of the Collossus and Bloodborne are something else. And the Resident Evil 2 it is so classic. Really good stuff. It reminds me when I was younger and would do my own alternative box art and cd cases whenever I bought secondhand games back in the day. I still have a few of those alternate games cases kept somewhere in my place. I like to collect games that had a significant impact on me. Cheers and happy gaming to us all.
I have called PSOne PSX since day one. I also had PSX games that came in those ugly oversized boxes.
Nothing tops the Sega Genesis boxes in my eyes. Those are gorgeous treasures.
@cptspaulding sega genesis does what Nintendont word ☝ up son
Some of the box art used is fantastic.
@GoblinKing86 PSX is a very american term isn’t it? I always just knew it as PlayStation?
Bloodborne is pretty
Awesome! Each and every one of them!!
Cannot help but think how awesome full BC would be? New games get released like normal but the old games remain with each new console. If not full BC on PS5 it's a missed opportunity... again! 🤑🤑🤑🤦♂️
I'd probably cry when they announce it! But for now, I'll keep my expectations very very low given Sony's horrible track record regarding BC.
Reminds me of what I planned to do long ago, to remake every my fave ps4 games cover based on ilustration of my choices.
I have 4 cup coasters that are original PS1 game cases from Capcom they have Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Dino Crisis and Street Fighter Alpha 2. You can get them with different ones yet the other day I noticed one had broken from my hot cup of coffee and the irony was it broke exactly where many original PS1 cases broke many times the plastic hinge to where the black PLAYSTATION logo would be.
This is pretty cool.
Thanks, thats pretty ***** awesome!
I miss PS1 now... thanks a lot!!!
We just call it 'greystation' now.
Lets hope this will be the new size of the boxes they dont need too be big anymore we only get the games in there now anyway.
@GoblinKing86 what on earth are you on about? Calling the original console the PS1 is simply a way to distinguish it from the other iterations.
Very few people know that the PSX is it’s own unique machine and Sony itself referred to the PS1 as the PSX for ages before it released.
Calling the original console simple ‘Playstation’ is vague and would only create confusion.
You seem to getting super wound up about a very pedantic detail.
Haha get a real collection. I have a copy of every pal release of Gran Turismo still sealed. And my ps1 collection is insane
I kinda like the Until Dawn one. The others look fairly standard, but I haven’t seen that Until Dawn image before. Could be that I’m living in a bubble, though.
