Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time developer Toys For Bob has said that the upcoming platformer will not feature microtransactions. The studio saw fit to set the record straight after the game's Microsoft Store listing noted "in-app purchases".
"We're seeing confusion about microtransactions in Crash Bandicoot 4 and want to be crystal clear: There are no microtransactions in Crash 4. As a bonus, the Totally Tubular skins are included in all digital versions of the game," the developer states on Twitter.
We suppose that's that, then, but let's not forget that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled didn't have microtransactions at launch either. They were added more than a month after the racer's release. As such, it's hard not to be at least a little bit wary of Activision's antics.
That said, Crash Bandicoot 4 doesn't have any online functionality as far as we're aware. It will have some kind of local multiplayer -- according to the title's PlayStation Store page -- but we're not sure how microtransactions could be shoehorned into that. It seems more likely that Crash 4 will be bolstered with a range of DLC instead. Character skins, levels, that sort of thing.

A platformer with micro-transactions would be a pretty ***** move though.
Let's not forget also that the devs of CTR straight up said before launch that game would not have microtransactions. This may be a separate case, but forgive me for being wary of Activision's greed.
This is Activision were talking about. They could release a bare bones Tic-tac-toe game and within a month it will be wall to wall "in-app purchases".
I read that the game has over 100 levels so it'll be significantly longer than the original trilogy, i'm really excited to try it out, Toys For Bob don't get enough credit for their work on the Skylanders games, leaving aside the toys-to-life gimmick the actual gameplay on them all was very solid so i'm confident they will deliver on Crash 4
I want Crash (and all other games) release as it is. No in-app purchases, no ads, no dlc.
The devs may not be planning to add microtransactions into the game at this stage, but I really don't trust Activision with this. If they do keep to their word with this though, then that'll go some way to restoring that trust.
Lol Spin to Win, love that sub header, when it comes to Activision I take everything they say with a grain of salt, still kind of burned from the whole CTR situation. This new Crash game itself looks solid though.
@Toadie Actually I think they get too much credit for pretty much just riding Naughty Dog's (and insomniac's) coattails this whole time. Let's see what they do when they have to do original work for once, the game looks okay so far.

Also, Publishers have started a new game of "this isn't what it is, because I call it something different".
It's Activision. Don't trust them, and I'd advise against buyer their games, or at the very least, waiting a year.

To be fair paid cosmetics and character skins would count as MTX, the only thing that wouldn't be MTX is a substantial expansion pack of levels which can include skins if they so choose!
I give it a month before it gets some micro transactions.
Guess we wait a month after release to see.
This statements are useless nowadays.
A game can be clean of MTX at release and they just force then later on an update to avoid the backlash on release day.

@Juanalf I said in my comment, they've already 'proven' themselves countless times with the excellent Skylanders games, heck they even made a Crash level in Skylanders Imaginators and that was great.
What's depressing is that a new non-phone game definitely not having microtransactions is even news. 😩

This game should just rename itself and get rid of the 4. It's not the 4th game and it will never be the 4th game. It will have microtransactions and you guys will hate it just like the other games.
As many others have pointed out, the Devs of CTR also flatly denied there'd be micro transactions, and we all know how that turned out. Truth is pretty much every major AAA publisher is cancer, and Activision Blizzard are quite possibly the worst of the lot.
To those saying you don't have to buy micro transactions so why does it bother you... well, from a designer's perspective if your game has micro transactions the entire base game is designed with them in mind. So even if you don't buy the micro transactions yourself, trust me, your gaming experience is impacted by them. Who'd buy experience point packs / in game currency if either was easy to come by in game?
I'm not in a rush to play so happy to wait a while to see if they add them later. Basically how I treat most games now.
@SwitchVogel the same was said for black ops 3 and 4, modern warfare remastered and MW2019 and world war 2. All activision games.
@darkswabber Lol, all the more reason to not take this at face value. Personally, I don't much care, as I'm not interested in buying skins for any game, but I really disagree with the principle of lying to your consumers for brownie points.
@Agramonte Same here...unless they program the game so you have to grind for hours/days instead of buying gear/armor or exp points/levels.
Crash isnt like that though so hopefully just skins/cosmetics.
