While most free-to-play multiplayer games have players killing each other for kicks, Fall Guys is all about silly, clumsy platforming challenges. As a result, it really stands out, and it helps that it's super fun. Dozens of players are grouped together, and the number is whittled down as they compete in a series of short, madcap stages. The one left standing at the end is crowned the victor, and by playing you steadily unlock all kinds of neat cosmetics. Fun for all ages, whether you play alone or with a team.

3. Genshin Impact (PS4)

If you're looking for a sweeping anime-styled adventure that you can play for free, look no further than Genshin Impact. For the sweet price of nothing, this is a shockingly good open world action RPG, stuffed with hours upon hours of content. It really does go above and beyond what we've come to expect from free-to-play games, particularly in terms of quality. Weighing in at a measly 10GB on PS4, you simply can't go wrong with giving Genshin Impact a shot.

2. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone (PS4)

Rhythm games don’t get much more hyperactive than Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone, the PS4 adaptation of SEGA’s extremely popular – and surprisingly demanding – Japanese arcade smash hit. Starring the green-haired Vocaloid heroine, the gameplay sees you matching buttons to the beat in increasingly complex patterns. With hundreds of songs available, and tons of unlockable cosmetics, fans of music-based games won’t want to miss this garish but gorgeous assault on the senses.

Supersonic acrobatic rocket-powered battle-cars take to the field in Rocket League, a chaotic clash of arcade racing and the beautiful game. Slick controls ensure that its simple premise scores with Messi-like precision, providing a multiplayer experience that's easy to pick-up but almost impossible to put down. Nifty netcode keeps you on the pitch as much as possible, while unlockables allow you to kit out your car with sombreros and other similarly silly garbs.
