Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an inevitability. A nailed-on sequel to 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, developer Insomniac Games is all but guaranteed to be working on the PlayStation 5-bound follow up as we sit here and type this. It's interesting, then, that Kinda Funny's Imran Khan apparently knows quite a bit about the supposed sequel.
Speaking on the latest Kinda Funny Gamescast, Khan says, "I know too much about [Marvel's Spider-Man 2], so I can't speculate too much. I think a Spider-Man 2 will come sooner than we think." Khan also mentions a "Christmas 2021" release window earlier in the video.
Is holiday 2021 sooner than we think? That would mean the game is set to launch roughly three years after its predecessor, which is a fairly quick turnaround. That said, we have to imagine that Insomniac moved straight over to the next title as soon as Marvel's Spider-Man was complete, leaving only a smaller team behind in order to further support the game with updates and DLC. Holiday 2021 certainly doesn't seem impossible, even if it is reasonably fast.
With the PS5 launching late next year, its eventual lineup of exclusive games isn't difficult to predict — especially where first party sequels are concerned. Alongside Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 are equally inevitable — but Khan's wording definitely makes it seem as though he's got some insider knowledge on the former.

Nice.ps5 resistance game would be legendary also.man ps5 is going yo be epic.and bend studio syphon filter.make it happen.word up son
Launch title is a long shot.... but would be most awesome.
Quite soon.... and yet it feels like ages from now
That's great news if true! I'm only halfway through the first Spider-man but I already know I want a sequel. Great game 👍
Well I guess if it's later that means the game is delayed in gaming news logic
Does that mean we have to wait even longer for a new Ratchet and Clank?
That's about when I would have expected, a lot of the groundwork has obviously been done with the original and clearly they already knew where the story is headed
3 years is more than enough for a sequel. Especially one that will be based in the same city with the same character and move set. Come up with a few new moves/gadgets and a cool new story and your done.
I'm obviously simplifying to a great degree but you get my point why it could be quick turnaround compared to other games.
There are definitely areas to improve (sections playing other characters/open world filler) but the core game-play was great and I loved the story. I look forward to it.
For a studio as big as Insomniac, and with them having so many of the systems already there, 3 years doesn’t seem bad - I can’t imagine it taking place outside of NYC (which is already built) but I didn’t play the DLC’s so idk!
For me i want Spiderman 2 to make better use of the villain roster. I dont want to necessarily fight them all, but batman arkham asylum city had loads of side missions involving b and c list crims that generally wont be part of the main plot line, but would be great for a small diversion.
I loved spidey, but couldnt help but feel like it leant on repetitive and recycled side mission content too much
@carlos82 Indeed. Kojima made Death Stranding in just three years, and people expect a sequel that will probably reuse the engine and a lot of assets to take half a decade?
I don't take anything that the KF guys say seriously anymore tbh.
“Sooner than we think” would be holiday 2020 to me. I mean if it’s set in NYC again then the city’s already built. They could upscale assets for the PS5 version.
Holiday 2021 just seems like a standard development time for a studio that’s so on the ball like Insomniac...
@Neolit true but don't forget the showcase shown behind closed doors for loading and asset streaming was using Spider-Man, so I'd imagine they would have had a head start in that regards.
@playstation1995 Nah, Sony Bend studio are working on Days Gone 2 for awhile now on PS5.. Syphon Filiter won't happen
I'd rather have a new Ratchet and Clank game, but I see why they're doing another Spiderman.
Maybe with the power of the PS5 we can get some puddles this time!
I believe it since insomniacs is super efficient, and 2021 is a good year to launch the game since ps5 units should be at least sold more than 10M.
Have heard nothing but good things about it, so bought it in the sale the other day... which is very unusual for me, as I have always intentionally avoided 'superhero' games in general. Haven't started it yet though, so can't comment on whether I'm fussed about a sequel.
Given that the first game is what they used to demo PS5's loading times, the recent purchase of the company, and Insomniac's generally close ties with Sony before that, I'd guess they've had access to the new hardware for a while... and perhaps have even had some input into its (the console's) design.
Spider-man 2 would get me to buy a PS5
Fell off KF not long after Colin left, who the heck is this and why should I lend credence to what he says?
Haven't played the first one yet. Was gonna buy it today for the black Friday sale.
I'm increasingly starting to expect that Spider Man 2, God of War 5 (or is it God of War 2?), and Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 will launch within a year or two of the PS5's launch.
I hope they do something to the city as playing in the exact same city again while something what can't be helped will feel a tad samey.
@ArcadeHeroes you definitely didn't play it then lol
@ArcadeHeroes you truly didn't play the game then, or if you did you simply didn't pay attention. Batman's combat, while sharing similarities, is far slower and more restricted than Spider-Man. As for not being memorable, the dialogue, the set pieces, and the story are all top quality. The final showdowns dialogue alone should be one of the most memorable gaming moments of this generation, plus the subsequent results. If anything it was nothing short of a Spider-Man comic come to life written by Stan Lee himself. I'll agree the world building was little Ubisoft, but it was easy to digest and not feel weighed down.
If you really played this game and paid attention to all the nuance and emotion, there's no way you could have come away as anything less than impressed.
3 years for a sequel fairly quick? so what do u call a new ip like death stranding that was made in 3 years?
do u know how many games the yakuza studio made this generation?
@playstation1995
I feel like a syphon filter remake or new game has to happen at some point right?? They would be crazy not to!
@NYJetsfan123 i know right.its gonna happen sooner than later.imagine a new syphon filter for the ps5 wow.them graphics.word up son
We already know who the villain's most likely gonna be based on the post credit scene but I'm hoping to see other villains like Kraven, Mysterio, Sandman, Venom or Carnage as well.
I honestly don't care as long as they just make another good game. - Personally, I haven't played the first one yet, but I've only just purchased a PS4, so it will come. - I'm sure it's a great game. But as for a follow-up, I hope Sony doesn't want to rush the developers for like a PS5 launch-title status, although that would be great for Sony and the system. - Perhaps something like Summer 2021 would be better for it. Then again, they could do the "double dip" thing by still having it on PS4 when the PS5 is still very new.
@Lekzie1 It takes a lot of time to develop this stuff. But then it should be "easier" now that they have their technical stuff set up and know what they're doing. Two years should be doable. Also depends on how many people are still on it, of course...
@MicHaeL_MonStaR thats my point, its not a surprise to do a sequel in 3 years, just look at uncharted 1-3 with only 2 year gap, insomniac is also big just look at how many games they released during the ps3 and ps4 era
@ArcadeHeroes that's literally not what I said. I'm saying you clearly didn't play it because it's nothing like a Ubisoft open world and rip off batman combat. The open world is very dry and there aren't that many things to do in comparison with a typical Ubisoft open world game. Once you do 5 Street missions, a couple side ones and clear out the bases you've basically done everything the open world has to offer. It's got great gameplay but little variety. Also combat is amazing, better than batman IMO, use of gadgets on the fly and the smoothness of Spidey's movement makes it 10/10.
@Nintyfan it's really clear to see who didn't play it and only watched some gameplay and those who actually did play the s*** out of it by looking at their comments, it's literally better than any Spiderman movie, the story was amazing, moved me to pieces at the end
