Hmmm, this is a tricky one. Sony's website has been updated with a teaser for its CES 2020 press conference, which is taking place on Monday 6th January, 2020. The website reads: "The future is coming." Ominous.
Of course, it's difficult not to immediately think of the PlayStation 5's big reveal, which has long been rumoured to be an early 2020 event. An unveiling of the next-gen console at CES 2020 certainly seems possible -- but is it actually happening?
Here's the thing: CES -- or the Consumer Electronics Show -- is a long running event where Sony usually flaunts its non-PlayStation products. Traditionally, the company holds a relatively short press conference that covers the firm's electronics -- things like televisions and phones, along with the occasional prototype technology that's being worked on behind closed doors.
Again, traditionally, Sony's CES showings have little to do with PlayStation -- but with the PS5 on the horizon, this year could be different. And yes, the press conference will be livestreamed. It begins at 5pm PST on the 6th January (that's 1am UK time on the 7th January).
So, could this be the big PS5 reveal? We're not totally convinced given Sony's history at CES, but company's approach with regards to the PS5 thus far has been different to say the least. We'll know for sure soon enough.
Do you think it's happening? Dream of the ideal PS5 reveal in the comments section below.

Don’t think they’ll reveal it here. Maybe announce date of reveal event - probably in February. Can’t wait!
It would seem strange to do a reveal at something that wouldn't be a typically game related conference. Probably a new phone or camera, or phone camera/camera phone.
We'll have to keep an eye on how this event is promoted. If PlayStation's social media accounts start posting about it, then it might actually be happening. If not, it'd be weird if Sony went and showed off the PS5 during a press conference a lot of people won't even know about.
@ShogunRok you guys a based on UK right?
Don't you guys slsept? It's 1.35 AM into a Monday 😂
Here’s a fun timeline:
Microsoft announces at The Game Awards.
Sony announces at CES.
Both dual for supremacy at E3.
Holiday 2020 is the happiest consumer console bloodbath in recent memory.
I was crazy on how much I spent this Christmas and imagine having to buy 2 PS5 next Christmas. Damn!
As much as i want them to shows PS5 and clear the misunderstanding of the bad rumor surrounding PS5 spec. I rather see them doing separate press conference on February and blow press and gamers with next gen games and detail explanation on new hardware spec.
As well received as the PlayStation meeting that revealed the ps4 was, I doubt they wouldn't do the same thing again. Probably just a new Xperia phone, guess we'll find out in a week!
Nah, it’s CES so it’ll be a new TV or phone or something along those lines. It would certainly be odd to show off a games console there.
Don't think that's happening at CES at all. But thanks for reminding. Always cool to see new tech, gaming or otherwise
It's so unlikely given how they revealed the PS4 but this gen has started of very unorthodox. Before this year I would never have thought a Wired.com article would be how we 1st heard about PS5. So who knows. But if I had to guess it's not CES.
Yes the future is coming, for sony tv and camera 😉
I highly doubt they’ll go full on details with the PS5, as we didn’t see any hints of it on their social media accounts. Maybe a quick mention of it during the press and that’s it.
8k tv is my guess.
I know somebody is already selling 1 but I don't think it's Sony.
They're probably going to announce a new phone, a new TV, camera but most certainly, not the PS5 lol
@Dijon Dunno why that rumour has gained any traction on youtube in the first place. After all the original Mark Cerny Wired interview already stated the ps5 would be based off Ryzen/Zen 2 & Navi tech.
As other posts have said, I'd be shocked if Sony would reveal a "hardcore gamer" product at CES...they'll likely follow a similar course to ps4 & hold their own reveal event...
No. Sony will not be mystic at all when the time comes. Sure, they've been unorthodox, but they won't be have almost the entire fanbase misses the big reveal because they wouldn't tell us about it unorthodox.
Sony isn't trying to compete with Xbox Series X at the game awards for leading nomination in worst console reveal in the history of gaming.
Isn't a certain someone going to be a keynote speaker at CES and if Sony do reveal the PS5, that certain someone will take credit for it.This is a train crash waiting to happen.
@Jaz007 to be fair, even MS isn't all too concerned with the XSX. With Halo launching on 3 platforms, not having a single exclusive for the box, and MS going 3rd party, nobody is concerned with the SXS. That's why they basically shadow dropped the console and gave almost no information about it since. The best thing an Xbox fan can do come holiday 2020 is buy a One X, because you'd be an absolute fool to buy the SXS.
Maybe it's a new TV with a Playstation built into it 😆
Personally I think they should do the proper PS5 reveal at its own event like they did with PS4. Why share the limelight with other products when it could all be focused on you?
Yes I think it's happening.
Too many 'leaks' giving people a wrong idea and xbox has the headlines atm.
I dont like the cliche but : getting hyped!!!
I can see it happening, if you think about it, they dumped a tonne of PS5 info completely unexpected and under the radar in a random interview with a website, so its not completely out with the realms for them to reveal some more info at a future tech show.
But, Im guessing it will probably be an announcement for the official unveiling date
I expect they might talk about the chip set or some unifying piece of architecture that will power all of their devices - mobiles, tv's, PS5 etc. But im highly sceptical they would show/drop PS5 at CES. Its the wrong audience.
I believe Playstation Now was announced at CES and they have used it to share sales figures about the health of the company. But i can't recall any major announcements being made there in the past.
There will be a stand-alone event in February. It worked last time, and i'll be really surprised if they dont do that again
That isn't the only thing that will be coming on that day to if they show the PS5 ;-o + I think it would be better if they did a show like the PS4 one in February(but I can't really wait until then so the sooner the better) + Already the internet rats are trying their hardest to damage the PS5(you have to be really stupid to think the Console Wars are over. The Haters are always around)
Doesn't really sound PlayStation related imo but could be interesting nonetheless.
They will show the hardware I think and that is it.
@Carl-G
I totally agree and I think a proper event is so much better. However people and the media liked the sort of short commercial Ms did at GA (apparently) so anything is possible.
@ShogunRok have you seen Cory Barlog has tweeted he is going to CES?! 🤔
Sony will post a date and time if something is up with CES. Until they do that is just wishful thinking.
Wow thats a reach lmao
@LaJettatura "The longer Sony takes to reveal the PS5 to the public the more PS4s they sell."
Fixed it for ya. 😉
How can the public lose interest in something they haven't even seen yet or don't even know about yet? And it's not like the public was watching TGA to even know about XSX.
I'm a gamer and I want to know, but the public doesn't care, Sony wants them to keep buying PS4. And if you don't watch college football the Playstation Bowl Saturday night was promoting the heck out of the Playstation. The public knows.
Hey @get2sammyb you should have done an article about the Playstation Bowl, some Sony bigwig was up on the platform handing out awards making bad gaming jokes. The game had great ratings, tons of exposure for Playstation.

Of course it's going to be at CES. It's the birth place of the first playstation. If it weren't for the betrayal that nintendo committed agaisnt Sony at the 1991 CES, Sony would have never made the transition into the gaming industry.
Sony website says has no ces anything on homepage so where did u get this info about ces
Would think a PlayStation Meeting like in 2013 would be the best way to go but Sony has done a lot of things differently in the last couple years. The PS brand has once again reached that point where when people think video games the first thing that comes to mind is 'PlayStation' so all they have to do is tweet out that there's a big announcement at CES and even the most casual of game consumers will tune in.
@Robocod Agree with you, i am sure there will be no PS5 presentation on CES 2020.
@potter32 you should check the link to sonys website at the bottom of the article champ
Maybe it's Vita 2.
I dont think this is the one. But we Will see.
@redd214 type in sony.com and look through the tabs u will find nothing on ces it must be a privet link
@Churchy lol ya no keep dreaming vita is dead and Sony said there no longer doing handhelds
@potter32 or type in Sony.com, use the handy search bar (most sites have em) , type in CES and you'll find it
@thebakerswife haha seriously though. Feels like it sometimes.
@gmxs an announcement of the official unveiling date would be a good move imo as they get everyone talking about ps5 again without actually revealing anything.
This would be dope. But yeah, a tricky one. On the one hand this statement is easily applicable to all of their products. On the other hand, as more and more folks use their consoles for much more than just gaming, maybe Sony, with the success of the PS4, have decided its time to properly market beyond simply gamers and position the PS5 instead of TVs as their overall flagship product 🤔
@potter32 Don't worry. I'm joking. I would just find the idea of it amusing.
