The US PlayStation Blog has just revealed the winners of its Game of the Year categories for the year of 2019, and as you'd expect, Death Stranding has claimed the top spot in a large number of them. With nearly one million votes counted in total, the game won six different awards.
Hideo Kojima's latest masterpiece came in first place for Best Narrative, Best Graphical Showcase, Best Soundtrack, Best PlayStation Console Exclusive, Best Performance thanks to the work of Norman Reedus, and the all-important Best PS4 Game award. Therefore, Death Stranding is the PlayStation Blog's Game of the Year. Kojima Productions itself even won the award for Studio of the Year -- PS4 fans have quite clearly fallen in love with the bizarre experience.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice scooped up the awards for Best Art Direction and Best Action Game, Kingdom Hearts III was voted the Best RPG, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare found itself top of the list for the Best Multiplayer category. Rather strangely, A Plague Tale: Innocence was voted the Best Independent Game despite not actually being an indie title. We'll leave you lot to work that one out.
Push Square's own Game of the Year deliberations are just around the corner, but in the meantime, what do you make of the PlayStation Blog's winners? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

A Plague Tale deserves every accolade it gets
Sam Bridges will take those Trophies, put them on his back and take them on a steady trek back to the collector.
Have Death Stranding on my Christmas list. Not sure how I'll like it (just seems like a really 'out there' kind of experience) if I end up getting it but I want to give it a try since Kojima has made a couple of my favorite games of all-time.
Congrats to Death Stranding.
I'm happy CTR NF won best racing game.
I definitely never played a game like it, and won't forget its strangeness for quite awhile
Story is pretty interesting too, and definitely spurred me to finish it
I won't be playing death stranding any time soon if at all but I am really glad it's doing well. Hopefully encourage more developers to make games they want to make instead of the yearly money makers. I'm interested to see what Mr Kojima does next
I really hope future games take note and build upon what DS achieved with it's world. Considering HZD sequel will of course use Decima I'm curious to see where they go with it.
Congratulations to KJP. Glad to see Death Stranding doing well.
It definitely deserves all this.
Hoping for the best for next year. I'm really curious to know what next has Kojima-san in store for us.
@Neolit
Thanks. If I don't get it for Christmas, I'll grab it in the post-holiday sale that is sure to happen.
Yup, I choose DS too in ps blog award
Uh... yeah, can someone remind me why this is a big deal? It’s on a PlayStation based site. I thought other games were more worthy.
Well deserved!
Sekiro, Plague Tale and Death Stranding are my favorite games of 2019.
@Nyne11Tyme This dude gets it. I bought it on a discount bin and man, what an awesome little game. Loved the story.
Death stranding must be experienced once. Its cheesy tedious and repetitive but amazing at the same time.
@Athrum amecia got nasty with a sling shot too lol
I love the game but no way should Norman Reedus be winning best performance, Mads Mikkelsen and Tommie Earl Jenkins were both ahead for me. Then without a doubt Capcom are the studio of the year with Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5 and the Monster Hunter expansion
@carlos82 Capcom’s a publisher, not a studio... three different studios made those three games.
@Jaz007 yeah im pretty sure capcom developed all three of those games.
Terrible choice.
@Jaz007 Capcom, Square Enix and Respawn are number 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Yes, it's weird. Respawn, but not EA. Capcom and Square are probably on the list because they don't really have separate studios; at least, for this year's nominees. Crystal Dynamics hasn't released anything for example, and all the credit Square got seems to be based on Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, which they develop in-house.
@Akurusu LOL, exactly. A game from a playstation project wins the goty, what a surprise.. even when it get's a 7.1 by users on metacritc, after they "cleaned" the really low notes.. But no, lets keep our eyes shut and say amen to everything... Oh, the hypocrisy..
The game is not bad, it just ain't that good either.
Oh, and I just saw who wrote this. lol. @LiamCroft once again,
I'm really really not against you (or this game). I just think you liked it very much (no problem here) and it seems that, since so many people criticized your score on this game (me included), you're trying to prove that your 10 in 10 is justified.
But anyway, those are just my thoughts..
@LowTech I would have covered this news regardless of who won, I don’t need to justify my review 😂
@LiamCroft ok m8. Just saying what it seems, but probably it's just me.
Seems a little weird for it to win the exclusive award when it's currently on sale as a pre-order on the Epic Game Store on PC. Still, it's great to see ambition, artistry and a unique vision being rewarded.
