Will PS5 games be 60 frames-per-second? Frames-per-second, or 'fps' for short, refers to the visual "smoothness" of a video game. Generally speaking, the higher the framerate, or frames-per-second, the smoother the moving image on your display will be. A higher frame rate is also preferable for games with action-based gameplay, as they can feel more responsive. Most console games either run at 30fps or 60fps.
However, having a higher frame rate makes a game more demanding to run. On consoles especially, this usually means that games with high framerates, like 60 frames-per-second, have less impressive visuals, or are scaled back on a technical level in some other way.
When it launches, the PS5 will be the most powerful console Sony has ever made. But will this power mean that PS5 games will run at 60 frames-per-second? We're going to attempt to answer that question in this guide.

Will PS5 Games Be 60 Frames-Per-Second?
The short answer is that some probably will, and some probably won't. Much like games on the PS4, some titles will opt for a higher framerate, while others will favour better graphics. Some will settle for 30 frames-per-second, and others will aim for 60 frames-per-second. It obviously all depends on the game.
As mentioned, however, the PS5's increased power could, in theory, make 60 frames-per-second easier to attain. With that in mind, it's possible that we could see more games aim for 60fps rather than 30fps. Will PS4 Games Run at 60 Frames-Per-Second on PS5?
The PS5 is going to be backwards compatible, meaning that it will play PS4 games (See Also: PS5 Backwards Compatibility: Can You Play PS4 Games on PlayStation 5?). But since the next-gen console is more powerful, does that mean PS4 games will run at a better framerate? Will PS4 games run at 60 frames-per-second on PS5?
It sounds obvious, but games that already run at 60fps on PS4 should hit that same framerate on PS5. PS4 games that run at 30fps, however, probably won't be doubling their framerate under normal circumstances. Their framerate may be more stable thanks to the PS5's increased processing power, but for them to enjoy a framerate boost beyond their framerate cap, they'd likely need to be patched or updated. I hope some of the less graphically demanding games will achieve 120 frames per second for people whose TVs can cope with the higher frame rate.
I watched my son playing Death Standing today at 120fps Ultra wide on PC. It really did look so much better than it did on PS4 Pro. I don't like playing on my PC as I sit on it for hours working and gaming is escapism but boy we need next gen to catch up
@TooBarFoo agree. Getting tired of all the 30fps apologism going about. Minimum goal for games should be 60fps.
I’ve been hoping for this gen after gen but it never happens. Devs are too interested in fidelity when I juts want locked 60fps full stop. I Think graphics have reached a point now where most games look exceptional so how about we skip fidelity for a gen and just get them console frame rates running locked 60..purleeeeeease

Having played over 250 hours of death stranding I can confirm 30fps is a dogs dinner . That game on pc running 60fps is the way it should be played.
Considering how powerful these next gen consoles are supposed to be, lets hope so.
60 FPS should be standard on next gen full stop......if the current gen (Xbox one X) can hit 30fps at native 4k why shouldn't next gen consoles with more powerful CPU/GPUs, faster/more RAM (double the RAM than PS4), dedicated RTL hardware and SSD drives up to 40 times faster than current gen not run 60fps at a minimum for all games?
Trouble is, if you want 60 FPS+ on the new consoles then for the short term you won't see much, if any visual improvement over current-gen games.
All that extra power will be used to just double the frame rate leaving very little for all the extra bells and whistles we expect to see in next-gen games, like ray tracing for example.
The first couple of years will likely be a mix of 30fps with "next-gen" visuals and 60fps+ with only slightly improved "current-gen" graphics.
Then hopefully new engines like UE5 will come into play and we'll see what the new consoles are truly capable of.
It's down to developer and game type. It's harder to sell people on fps. We need more titles that give the end user the option of performance Vs visual fidelity. Start adding Ray tracing and you sap a big chunk of the consoles power.
