Many were sceptical about Team Sonic Racing's cooperative karting action before launch, but the end result works really rather well. Up to three online or local players can join a team and work together to claim victory, using a few simple yet effective co-op gameplay features. It's something that needs to be played to fully understand, but trust us when we say that this is an enjoyable kart racer that's even better playing co-op with a couple of friends.

If you ever do reach the end of this game’s ridiculous amount of single player content, there’s a lengthy couch co-op mode to try your hand at too. This tricky platformer’s bespoke co-operative levels force two players to work together to reach the goal, with switches only accessible to one player, or the need for self sacrifice to allow the other to run to the end. It’s difficult, and it could end longstanding friendships, but instant restarts and the satisfaction of success will keep you glued to the screen.
Grand Theft Auto V’s three-pronged campaign already feels like it should be a perfect fit for coop, but it’s with GTA Online’s Heist missions that developer Rockstar North has at last realised the juggernaut series’ collaborative potential. With each player assuming a different cog in an increasingly complicated criminal crusade, this is some of the most compelling co-op you’ll find on the PS4.
Rayman’s most recent adventure is excellent when playing solo, but introducing more players to the mix turns the fun factor up to 11. You can either cooperate to find collectibles and make navigation easier, or you can drive your buddies mad with some needless slaps to the face. However you decide to play, this quality cartoon platformer will entertain you and your friends for hours.
The Division 2 arguably enjoyed the best launch period of a looter shooter this generation, and although things have been a little rocky for Ubisoft's cover-based excursion since, it's still great fun with friends. A detailed, dense open world is the spine of The Division 2, and exploring it as a team can quickly become an addiction -- especially when you're being showered with loot. But it's the story and co-op specific missions that really set the game apart, offering up some fantastic firefights.
