Who would have thought that Deadly Premonition 2 would be a thing 24 hours ago? Deadly Premonition 2! Nevertheless, the sequel that nobody saw coming was announced in last night's Nintendo Direct along with a port of the original game to the Switch, but it turns out that version isn't quite the definitive release.
As tweeted out by Ben Janca, video publisher at Gamespot, the version that hit the Switch eShop overnight is neither the original game nor the Director's Cut that came to PlayStation 3 back in 2013 - it's in a sort of limbo in-between the two.
Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut featured an extra scenario not found in the original, enhanced HD graphics, a reworked control system, and bonus content. We don't yet know what it is that Deadly Premonition Origins is missing, but if confirmed to be true, then it means that the PS3 version of the game is still the definitive version on consoles. We'll leave our friends over friends at Nintendo Life to work that one out. We're not entirely sure how the development team has managed that, though, because work must have been done on the port to take away features.

I've heard the Switch port has some audio glitches. Going to hold off on getting it until it's patched up.
I got this on the PS3 after hearing great things about it's terribleness. It's was so broken I literally couldn't get beyond the opening cut scene. Crashed every single time 😂
What a weird game. It was intriguing for a while and some parts were genuinely creepy. But whoo boy did it run like hot garbage sometimes. I enjoyed the 'twin peaks' vibe....but broken is broken
How dumb. I'll just stick with my 360 version, then, and grab the sequel on Switch.
Really wished they would port the Director's Cut to the PS4 with an improved framerate.
PS3 version is best? If the Switch version hits a steady 10fps that puts it above the PS3 version. The ONLY way to play this on console is on 360.
Ha, I did complete this on PS3, I think I even bought the dlc. What a weird game. Framerate was poor, but Id made it through Doom on the Saturn, so this was nothing. I wouldnt say its a game I felt needed a sequel, but as quite a few people into Nintendo consoles only seem to play games on their machines, be interesting to see how its recieved. Seemed a weird choice of platform to me, but then again, its a very weird game.
PS3 version is by far the best, even with the technical issues.
Such a great game. Weirdo mixture of silent hill and David Lynch stuff like Twin Peaks.
Excellent dialogue, bizarre NPCs, a great example of world-building using limited resources.
I must have unknowingly bought a PS3 Pro because I platinumed this about 3 months ago and didn't have any of the issues people are talking about on here. Absolutely loved the game so definitely up for another.
