The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PS4)

Although its visuals have aged a little, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains one of the PS4's prettiest open world titles. Beautiful lighting effects illuminate each environment perfectly, and the game still has the most dramatic, eye-popping sunsets on Sony's system. Couple that with a suitably atmospheric weather system, and you've got a deliciously rich feast for your peepers.

DriveClub (PS4)

It’s one of the older games on this list, but DriveClub is still one of the more impressive visual feats released on the PS4 – despite it never even being upgraded for the supercharged PS4 Pro. Evolution’s commitment to this title post-release meant that it was enhanced by insane weather effects, but the day one offering of dynamic environments already looked stunning – even if detractors will point to the decision to lock the gameplay at 30 frames-per-second as a negative.

Shadow of the Colossus (PS4)

Bluepoint's incredible PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus really drives home the artistic vision of Fumito Ueda and his team. The game was a technical marvel when it first arrived on PS2, but this version gives the game a new lease of life, refreshing every visual asset from the ground up, and the result is astounding. It's every bit as haunting and beautiful as the original, and what's more, it runs far smoother than prior releases. This is the best way to experience the classic, which remains a shining example that, sometimes, less is more.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey (PS4)

For how gigantic its open world is, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is shockingly pretty at times. Through the magic of dynamic weather and lighting effects, ancient Greece comes alive in some beautiful ways. Things can seem a little rough around the edges here and there, but overall, Ubisoft's crafted something special. Climbing to the peak of a mountain and watching the sun go down is an absolute treat. Thank the gods for photo mode, eh?

Days Gone (PS4)

When you consider that developer Bend Studio has been working on handhelds for the best part of 15 years, Days Gone is an extraordinary achievement. Oregon is an inspired setting, spanning dense forests to desolate deserts. But its mastery of the Unreal Engine is unparalleled here, as not even the odd framerate chug and texture pop-in can deter from the sheer level of detail packed into this enormous sandbox.
