In a shocking turn of events, a patch has come out of nowhere to fix an especially annoying bug in the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy IX. Update 1.02 is available to download now, and it reportedly fixes the infamous music looping issue that's been annoying players since the game released almost two whole years ago. Wow.
For those who don't know, the background music in Final Fantasy IX for PS4 used to loop back to the start of the track whenever you finished a battle or engaged in a game of Tetra Master. This meant that, unless you stood still and listened, you'd very rarely hear any of the environmental music in full. A real shame, considering just how incredible the soundtrack of Final Fantasy IX is.
But yeah, it's apparently been fixed. Maybe it's time for another playthrough?

what's odd is that they didn't fix FFVII on PS4 but they did on the other systems but this time they fixed FFIX on PS4 but NOT on other systems
what gives Square?
@ShogunRok ohh also a little off topic but Tifa just got announced for Dissidia NT out July 2nd/3rd depending on region

I saw the thumbnail and “Final Fantasy IX,” then got my hopes up that a remake was announced (post E3 for some reason). Sadly, I got my hopes up before finishing the title of the article.
I played all the way through this on PS4 and got every trophy in the game apart from that stupid jump rope one and I didn't even notice this was a thing.
This is oddly good timing as I've been looking into getting 7, 8 and 9 on Switch or PS4 once 8 comes out, as I was first exposed to FF through the PS1 trilogy of games. (And FFT).
So any word on whether or not this is also fixed on Nintendo Switch, or if a fix is coming? FF7 got fixed on Switch so I hope this does too.
@Onion no word as of yet sorry
As @Fullbringlchigo says, given all other FFVII formats got this patched earlier this year,its baffling the ps4 version still hasn't had this sorted out,but Square Enix haven't had a great record when it comes to patches in general!
@Onion Judging by this, I'd expect a fix for FFIX on Switch around 2021.
Lazy, lazy Square-Enix. Jesus.
@Robocod this is true
I randomly starring playing this game yesterday for the first time in a year and got the patch an hour into it. That's my story, just thought I'd point out this coincidence lol.
@johncalmc try this, my dude

LOL I just bought it in the sale how awesome is that haha maybe they could fix the game to be full screen too that would be the only thing that still bothers me a bit - by the way I’m all in love with FF9 all over again . Absolutely one of the most legendary PS1 JRPGs of all time
@consolfreak1982 that would mean having to redo and re-render every cut scene in the game, including the ones that play in the background while the in game character models run around on top
so if they was going to do that they might as well just have remade the entire thing
Its fixed now nice release it retail Square Enix with a classic PS1 cover.
