Update: Well, it's been several hours since this rumour surfaced, and there's no sign of a State of Play announcement. There's a slim chance that we could hear something later tonight, but at this point, we're not holding our breath.
Does this mean the rumour surrounding the supposed trailer is also false? Not necessarily, but we won't know for sure until the week draws to a close.
Original story: Uh oh, here we go again. Legion de Jugadores, one of the Spanish sites that claim The Last of Us: Part II will be getting a release date reveal this week, has doubled down. Now, the website is saying that there really is a State of Play livestream happening in just a couple of days, on Thursday the 30th May. This broadcast will apparently focus on Naughty Dog's sequel.
If The Last of Us: Part II really is getting a release date this week, then a special State of Play makes sense, right? We suppose so, but truth be told, we're still not completely sold on this rumour to begin with. With the greatest respect to Legion de Jugadores, we're seen plenty of websites capitalise on fake rumours before in order to keep the traffic rolling in. With that in mind, let's hope that this source turns out to be legit.
Either way, we'll know whether these rumours have any real weight to them very soon. If a State of Play is planned for this week, it won't be long at all before Sony makes a statement. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled.

Sounds strange that this would be the only outlet that has knowledge of this. Here’s hoping they are legit, but I won’t be blocking my schedule for Thursday just yet.
the most interesting part about this is that sony reveals release dates when the game is only a couple months away .
if so that could mean we could be playing TLOU 2 as soon as let's say august. (imagine if it came out while E3 is going on) that would steal the spotlight from E3 for sure.
I kind've hope this isn't true simply because it'd be too out of nowhere. I want to be prepared for this kind of event, not have it sprung on me 2 days before so I don't have time to clear my schedule
Yeah apparently it's going to be announced in a few hours so we will soon know how much credibility this site has. Even though I have no interest at all in TLOU2 hope this is actually true, would be a great surprise!
If the game is indeed scheduled for either October or November this year, then a release date announcement fits the pattern perfectly...
God Of War release date was announced in December 2017, just 5 months before it released in April 2018.
Spider-Man release date was announced in April 2018, just 5 months before it released in September 2018..
We are just 5 months out from October so...
The only thing i find weird is that it's in the form of another STATE OF PLAY...
That means we would've gotten 2 State Of Play's this month.
@Thunderlips69 true, but Sony's never said State of Play will have a set-in-stone monthly schedule, so they could put one out whenever they've got something significant to announce.

Hope its true and it makes perfect sense to for TLOU2 to have its own mini showcase, would be great if Death Stranding got one as well this week. Just imagine by Friday morning we might know that DS & TLOU2 are both coming this year!!

@get2sammyb Sony have to announce this by today because Sony don't work on Memorial Day yesterday right ??? they usually announce state of play in 3 days ahead until they stream it

With the recent Kojima posting on a Death Stranding trailer,I have my doubts about this one...although Naughty Dog may well be targeting a Oct./Nov. timeline,I would've thought they'd be making a bit more noise if they were ready to announce a date. Wasn't it last month they only finished the mo-capping?
will it JUST be The Last of Us 2 like 100% of it or will there also be some other stuff in it too with most of it being TLOU2?

Makes sense, consider TLOU Part 2 is a huge release for Sony.
Let's just think about this carefully shall we? Sony have three exclusives left to release before PS5 hits the stage. We know that they are going to have to play a 'slower game' than normal (ie they simply haven't got the exclusives left to release for the PS4.
So they still want to keep attention on the PS4, so it seems fairly obvious. Let each of the three games take their place one by one in the spotlight. Stretch out the media attention on each one, to gain maximum publicity. Therefore I simply cannot see a state of play this week with a trailer dropping for TLOU2 as we already know that Death Stranding hits the stage his week.

i think Sony don't like stream two episodes on their state of play in same month. they should save it for 30th instead May 9th

It was reported in early May that Last Of Us Part 2 would get info before E3 and that was reported by multiple source so even if this certain announcement is bull, something has to give sooner or later.

I was hoping that this site would have had something to do with Gustavo, and that's where they are basing their sources. Then I found out he was Argentinian, not Spanish as I thought, so there goes that theory. Either way, when this game releases, I am taking the day off work so none of you lot can spoil it for me
I'd be surprised at this point if there were a State of Play. We know about Death Stranding tomorrow and I can't see a SoP just for TLOU. What could be possible is a Game Informer coverage, It's nearly the start of June and Sony have used them a few times in the past year for Spider-Man, Days Gone and Dreams.
TLOU2 is cool and all but bring the FATAL FRAME franchise back to ps!!!

I’m paraphrasing here, but Greg Miller from Kinda Funny Games Daily said in the latest episode that Scott Lowe (friend of his and ND Senior Communications Manager) is on leave at South Korea, why would a TLOUP2 announcement would be revealed this week whilst the person responsible for communications is away? I totally agree with this, and especially we haven’t heard anything about it till now. We’ll have to wait a bit longer I guess.
My guess is that Sony don't want to divert attention away from Death Stranding, since that has been confirmed to get a trailer today, so my guess is Sony will wait 24 hrs at least & then either drop the State Of Play stream at the spur of the moment or have it be on Friday instead & announce it tomorrow instead.
Of course this could all be false & we end up once again getting nothing about Last Of Us Part 2 but sooner or later the game has to come to the light & reveal itself in full.
Plus if they were ramping up for a release date now would they not do it at E3 no they pulled out you would think they're would want that hype at E3
