Fallout 76 is around 45GB in size -- big but not Red Dead Redemption 2 big. However, include its 54GB day one patch, and suddenly its total file size is closing in on a whopping 100GB.
That's right, Fallout 76's day one patch is reportedly bigger than the actual game. God only knows how big the patch notes are gonna be, but we'll go ahead and assume that it's going to fix a lot of stuff. Hopefully it stops the full release from running as badly as the beta did on PlayStation 4.
Are you ready to download a 54GB update for Fallout 76? Prepare your hard drive in the comments section below.

The beta is 95gb
Honestly with that size- i'm gonna give a hard pass
@SKC_Diamond You played the bugged version. The actual beta was 45 gb, the 95 is a messed up version that screwed with peoples files and had more bugs than the normal one.
That's not a patch. That's a "remaster" of an already crappy game.
The Fall of 2018 - When patches ran wild and Blu-Ray aint big enough.
I love it. 🤣
This shouldn’t be allowed. I’m serious, there seriously needs to be a limit to day one latches now. If devs only had a 1 or a few gigs in the first week they’d be forced to slow down and actually prepare games to work at launch again.
Look I'm saying it for the last time, don't buy this game! You're welcome.
I'm not wasting my harddrive space on trash.
I’M GONNA F’N BUY IT!!!! That’s right! I have it preordered and can’t wait! It’s an online only game anyway so what’s the big deal about a day one patch. It’s probably gonna get even bigger when they add content and I’m ok with it. I’ve had a blast with the beta and I’m gonna enjoy the real deal. Who’s with me?!!!
Not bothered by the file size but more how well the game actually works, my biggest issue is the lack of NPC's in a big open world rpg. I'll wait for reviews before making up my mind one way or another as I really did have a lot of fun with Fallout 4
I hope this fails hard so Bethesda could finally stop experimenting with online/multiplayer and focus on their great single player games.
I am totally ready. Loved the beta. Got the space reserved on my HDD for the auto-download which should start some time on the 12th.
One of the guys at work gave me a code for the beta and we had a laugh actually and met a couple of cool other people. I think it might get old pretty quick though and really needs a decent group of folk to enjoy. Interested in reviews and how quickly the price drops. It has moved fallout 4 to the top of list to play after RD2 though!!
I thought console players had to uninstall the BETA and install the Full Version, so the game is only 54Gb total.
I hope in an epic fail, just for the good of Bethesda and single-player games.
Anyone else cancelled the preorder because of the file size and day 1 patch? Please do let us know asap, we’re all waiting anxiously! Don’t forget to use Caps Lock and at least 3 exclamation marks. Thanks!
Its probably just the other half of the game, im guessing they got too cheap to put it all on 2 discs so they're making it a download.
Lmao, a day one patch bigger than the actual game.
Bethesda knows no shame, whoever buys this, jokes on them.
I'll just wait and hope that they don't screw up any future singleplayer Fallouts, Elder Scrolls...
I really hope no one buys this trainwreck
ouch that 500gb ps4 is a bit obsolete
My brother was interested in the game until he found out there were no NPCs at all, just other players.
I still think the game will find its core audience, in the same way Destiny and Elder Scrolls Online has.
@SKC_Diamond was gonna say the same so it'll take up 140gb at launch, yet another reason not to buy it
Hopefully it includes the fun that was absent in the beta
@Cowboysfan-22 Well not me thats for sure. 😁
at that size i wouldn't be surprised if it's replacing the entire game with new code
@fisher I always wait for Bethesda games to go on sale. When thats time is around they are patched completely. 😁
@Cutmastavictory
Yeah, but you need 10,000 Atoms for it.
Anyone saying that they’re sticking to physical media for multiplayer games are just fooling themselves. You may buy a physical disk, but you’re full digital if you want to play.
I don’t have an issue with no NPC’s. Sure all other Fallout games have them but this game is set in a totally different era and it makes sense lore wise. Plus I like how you can come across a corpse and holotapes or notes piece together a story. It’s a cool change of pace. Makes you feel more alone, like you really are the first vault dwellers to step out into the new world
100GB? Sounds like a sloppy, unoptimized mess.
I can't believe I'm passing on a Fallout game but I am.
@FullbringIchigo I think that’s one of the best comments here lol. The funny thing is you could actually believe it too.
so it's basically replacing the whole game. discs these days are just unlock keys.
I think I will stick to my Skyrim. You, know, the one with the NPC’s.
That's disgusting. At least attempt to finish the game before releasing it.
Lol it probably includes the HD texture pack they are so famous for adding to there games on Steam as a free DLC pack. Usually that adds a few GB and can make it look better but in this case probably not and normally the modders out there make an even better one and it's FREE.
@Anguspuss I think 1TB should be the lowest option if you see how much you lose with the system only already.
@Eternallover21 If you really dont like it does that mean you are a hater. The same as the overused Fanboy nonsense. I see Bethesda like a bad company who are out of touch and release unfinished some times broken games. Love the comment we need no different platforms. Translation the we need to do even less to optimise a game GTFO Bethesda.
Looks like this is gonna be one buggy mess of a game
Not interesting in MMO, but that patch size is crazy...
@lacerz I totally agree only online should just release in the online store but i know big companies will make the singleplayer obselete so they cut out the physical stores on the profit.
Big fan of stories like this.
I thought I would be set 3 years ago when I replaced my 500gb hard drive with a 1tb. Now I'm looking at usb hard drives and I'm afraid 2tb extra won't be enough...
