Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 topped the October 2018 NPD sales results in the United States, beating Red Dead Redemption 2 and proving that the clamours for the series’ missing single player campaign were overblown by a very vocal minority. The first-person shooter – which is currently 2018’s top-selling title in the USA – registered the eighth highest revenue in a launch month since records began back in 1995.
NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said: “The lack of a single player campaign did not hurt Black Ops 4 launch month sales in the slightest.” Fans of the set piece-laden, Hollywood-esque stories may be disappointed to see this news, but Activision may have stumbled upon a superior alternative in Blackout, which many regard as the best Battle Royale currently available on consoles.

This is what people mean when they say single player is dead I guess!
Got Tomb Raider (35 euros) plus Cod for 20 euros in a buy any ps4 game and take cod for 20 euros. I'm ready to be disappointed but oh well, 20 euros is not much for a new game and I always enjoy zombies
Call of duty is primary multiplayer game so the single player portion isn't the focus, it's different compared to the likes of fallout or elder scroll series.
@Kidfried nah more likely because 90% of CoD players brought the games for the multiplayer anyway so no single player wasn't an issue for them
and the sheep of course
@Kidfried stop, before they hear you!
Single player is far from dead, see all the great SP games we've had this year alone! It will continue to co-exist with multiplayer (hopefully harmoniously) for years to come.
The truth is this was going to sell well. If zombies had been removed there maybe have been an effect. However i hope this doesn't start 'the singler player is dead' nonsense again.
lol i prefer single player with narrative story more than Multiplayer with Noobs
The masses and casuals don't mind paying more for less.
The one single thing about BO4 that interests me is the 4 player split screen.
Lol I think not. I didn't buy my usual 2 copies so sells are down.
I found most Call of Duty campaigns to be pretty damn fun so it's disappointing that they didn't add one this year, and see these results may decide never to go back. Can't argue with the decision though. It costs money and the completion rate on campaigns always was very low. No reason to spend all that money on one mode when 95% of players aren't going to bother with it anyway.
Except that Black Ops 4 did have lower launch sales than both Black Ops 2 and 3 despite a bigger user base than the latter and an increased presence on PC. To say it didn't affect it in the slightest is a bit presumptuous and probably incorrect but it didn't have a major impact overall and COD has basically been a multiplayer game for a long time anyway.
Oh and it only just beat the single player Red Dead despite having a 2 week head start 😉
The the majority of people that pick this up off the shelf and only play the campaign aren't the same type of people to complain here. Probably silent and disgruntled, quite likely that there will be a bigger drop off for CoD 2019.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi I'm one of the SP guys. Have been for a while. I loved CoD4 multi, but it's never been the same since. Since then I've opted for SP campaigns & offline Zombies. I don't have anything against mp, I just don't enjoy it anymore.
@hadlee73 know a lot of 10 year olds do u ??
@hadlee73 I was not suggesting you were a paedophile at all, I wondered if you yourself were in that 10 year old age bracket but more highly functioning and speaking out about the fact that COD is dominated by under age players.
@hadlee73 yes one can dream !! They are the reason one day away as they are mostly little brat keyboard warrior types.
