Shadow of the Colossus is one of the few games we wished we could play for the first time again. We’re a little bit jealous, then, of anyone who’s going to go into the upcoming PlayStation 4 remake having never sampled Fumito Ueda’s opus before. That includes the son of Bluepoint’s art director, who is the subject of this little social media clip.
In the video, the developer shares his kid’s first experience with the game. It starts out with confusion and inevitably ends in wonder. If he was talking about any other game, we’d cynically label this clip as fluff – but the title really is that good.

I have never played it. I am looking forward to finally trying it this year
@YeYa I'm green with envy. Haha, nah... You're in for a treat. Hope you love it as much as I do.
This originally came out when I was a kid. Leave it to me to feel old at 22.
I haven't played it either. It's always been something I'm interested in, but I never found a copy of it on PS2 or PS3. I'll have to get this on PS4.
I remember getting it at launch, watching the intro, playing for 45 minutes and sticking it on the shelf :') it was another year before I gave it another crack and cleared it. Happy memories, life in general was pretty cool back then. It's cool now too, just in a different way! (Im not typing this on a Sony Ericsson for a start!)
I haven't played any of the ico collosus type stuff, looking forward to playing them all soon
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi mate... lots of jumping. That's all I'll say.
Sony, just fricking buy Bluepoint and Housemarque already!
@DerMeister
I wish I had skipped the PS3 remaster and started with this new one. If this remake corrects the issues I had I will gladly take it.
I cannot wait for this game to come out. It's one of my all time favorites
Can't wait for this game
I hope bluepoint remaster another playstation classic for their next project.
I can't really get over the idea that the theme of the game is that you make a contract with evil to kill innocent giants. I never like playing a character like that.
One of the best games ever!!!
The original SotC came out when I was 20, and I didn't buy a PS2 until I was 28. But I felt like a giddy 5 year old when I played it.
One of the best games ever made, a real classic.
Can't wait to play this masterpiece again on PS4.
I can't get over how good some of these environments look!
But, yeah, even if I skip every other PS4 release this year, I'll still be getting this. Wonderful game!
Any other kid would ask where the machine gun is.
I've not played it before, but since I've seen enough clips of it, it's unlikely to wow me as much as that kid. Still, I'm really excited for the remaster.
Since I have already bought the game on a sale last year, I really don't mind buying the game solely just to experience the inmersion on 4k and 60fps.
One of the all-time greatest.
One of my all time favourite games....an absolute must for anyone who has never played the original or ps3 remaster.
The remake looks very strong, and Bluepoint have worked wonders on other projects in the past.
I too am envious of those who will be playing this for the first time, it is honestly one superb piece of work from Ueda and Team Ico.
The fact that Ive already played through the game on PS2 hasn't stopped me pre-ordering this gem!!
Looking forward to taking down some Collossi next month. 😁
This reminds me of last summer when I dug out the PS2 and showed the kids We Love Katamari. At first they were like 'Father, are you on crack?' (they didn't actually say that) but after a few minutes they were howling with laughter.
Never played SOTC before and I was really excited to play it, but seeing articles and videos like this has dampened my enthusiasm some what.
@JaxxDuffer It’s not like other games. Like it shows in the video, it’s not about multiple random enemy encounters. But the Colossi are impressive, ferocious and beautiful at the same time, and the combat is satisfying. Visually it was absolutely fantastic 2 generations ago. The story and presentation are top notch. It has a very introspective and epic feel to it. My advice for everyone going in for the first time would be to go in with an open mind. I don’t want to oversell it, as I’m sure there are some who won’t care for the style of it, but those people will be rare, especially amongst the hardcore gamers. If you want something unique, look no further. I can’t think of another game like it. The game has some deep meaning that will have you pondering the ending for a long time.
.... I think I just talked myself into pre-ordering.
Playing this year for the first time as well. Wonder if there'll be VR, similar to Last Guardian … because that demo was really good.
Im jealous at the kid you can never get never get back to playing it for the first time. Sony please give us ICO to we know Bluepoint will nail it.
Theres simply something magical about this game. It feels like reading a long epic book. I always felt like it takes place within the never ending storys world which happens to be my all time favorite movie.
@Th3solution - you've restored my enthusiasm, many thanks
@JaxxDuffer No problem, dude. Like I say, I hope I haven’t oversold it. I am very interested to see how Push Square reviews it. I smell a 10/10.
I haven't played it either looks amazing to be honest.
Looks incredible, can't wait to revisit this classic all over again. Just need an Ico remake next to complete the 'trilogy' on PS4!
Yay, I never played it! But first I have my first ever run through of Okami scheduled...
@doctommaso That's actually kind of what the plot explores later on. The guilt this character feels and whether or not it's worth it to kill many to save one.
