Sony's launched the PlayStation 4 Pro today, ushering in a brave new world of iterative console hardware as part of the process. But while the system brings big improvements in image quality and performance, not every game is leveraging the hardware at this point in time. There are a handful of developers who have gone above and beyond ahead of launch, however, and these are the ten titles that are making the supercharged system shine right now.

Battlezone

One of the best looking games on PlayStation VR gets even better with the PS4 Pro. Battlezone demonstrates how supersampling can be employed to significantly increase image quality, despite the relatively low-resolution of the virtual reality headset remaining locked. It also incorporates some nice visual bells and whistles, including improved reflective lighting and more. Phwoar!

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Marketing partnerships mean that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (and its stablemate Modern Warfare Remastered) is practically obliged to take advantage of the PS4 Pro, and it's running at a much higher resolution, with checkerboard rendering up to 4K resolution as a result. Perfect for when you're trying to no-scope those scrubs off in the distance.

inFAMOUS: Second Son

One of a handful of titles that includes multiple options, inFAMOUS: Second Son (and it's very likeable standalone expansion inFAMOUS: First Light) allows you to toggle between sharper image fidelity and a faster framerate. Whichever you plump up for, the title's stunning visual effects really shine on the PS4 Pro's supercharged hardware.

Ratchet & Clank

Already one of the best looking PS4 exclusives, Ratchet & Clank comes to the PS4 Pro with a new aliasing solution and a temporal injection upscaling technique which means that it truly pops on the new console. Factor in HDR support and the Insomniac Games developed exclusive's visuals are elevated to a whole new level.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

It may have taken a year longer to arrive on Sony's console, but Rise of the Tomb Raider has bedded back down on PlayStation with a tentpole PS4 Pro update. Not only does the title look outstanding using checkerboard rendering in 4K resolution, but it also allows you to toggle between various different 1080p visual options, enabling you to switch between performance or presentation prowess.

Robinson: The Journey

The best looking game on PlayStation VR without question, Robinson: The Journey looks so much sharper when running on the PS4 Pro. Virtual reality is all about losing yourself in immersive other-worlds, and while Crytek's dino affair is a bit bland from a gameplay perspective, there's no denying that its lush alien world is an incredible place to inhabit.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

Bethesda's legendary role-playing release may be a little long in the (dragon) tooth these days, but it's looking sharp in its remastered guise on the standard PS4. And it's even better in native 4K when played on the PS4 Pro. The upgrade does introduce some minor framerate hitches – as you'd expect of a Bethesda release – but we're hoping those get smoothed out soon.

The Last of Us Remastered

Another game that started life on the PlayStation 3 and is looking at its best on the PS4 Pro, The Last of Us Remastered allows you to experience the fungal apocalypse in native 4K at 30 frames-per-second, or at an upscaled resolution in 60 frames-per-second. Both options output an image at a much higher resolution than on a standard PS4, and with HDR enabled, it feels like a brand new game.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

This isn't actually the best patch in the PS4 Pro's launch lineup, with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End only rendering at 1400p on the supercharged system. However, that's a big boost compared to the 1080p of the standard PS4, and multiplayer also sees improvements, too. Plus, the game already looked so darn impressive that any advancements are worth your time.

Watch Dogs 2

Watch Dogs 2 is already packing approximately 125 per cent more personality than its predecessor, and that's set to be realised in glorious technicolour on the PS4 Pro. The game will run at a much higher resolution on Sony's supercharged system, meaning that you'll be able to soak up every inch of San Francisco that Ubisoft's 10,000 person team has spent the past two years slaving over.
