The dreaded post-release content drought has affected almost every new console – but it’s been particularly pronounced of late. Despite the best efforts of Sony, the PlayStation Vita has struggled to secure a steady stream of content, and the same situation is currently occurring on Nintendo’s Wii U. Fortunately, the electronics giant is confident that the PlayStation 4 can avoid the ugly predicament.
“There isn't a console in history where making sure that you have content for it wasn't an issue," said Sony’s senior business development manager and indie game extraordinaire Shahid Kamal Ahmad as part of an extensive interview with Gamasutra. "It's always the case that getting the right sort of content, and getting a good level of content, is going to be important."
He added: “I don't think that the PS4 is any different. I think that we're going to have a really good launch, and I think that we're going to have a good amount of content appearing for quite some time on that. We've got more developer engagement on the PS4 than we've had for any previous console, so that's a really healthy sign.”
There’s been a steady stream of content reveals for Sony’s next generation system over the past few months, and we expect plenty more at E3 in June. However, the Vita’s line-up looked incredible prior to its launch, too, but the releases quickly dried up. Let’s hope that the platform holder has learned to spread the content out this time around, rather than unloading all of its ammunition in a single day.

Well is good to see their securing the line with developers.
I'm sure Sony want to avoid to fall in the same hole as Wii U.
yay, so far everything sounds good, sounds like the PS4 will get games, unlike the Wii U
Software droughts happen to every new console. I don't know why people think the Vita and Wii U are unique examples (well, aside from stupidity...).
Every company promises the same thing, but the drought still happens. Just wait for the 'PS4 IS DOOMED' idiocy to spread like a virus...
I don't think the PS4 will have near as bad a software drought as usual for new consoles. I think Sony has the first-party power to keep at least one or two big games coming out for a few months. Then they will have third-party making games too.
There seems to be a lot of cross-gen stuff, not ideal but I'm definitely hopeful that it'll make the initial months of the PS4 better than the PS3 and even the PS2 before that. It was a good while into 2001 before PS2 saw anything really worth buying. There's also the indie games to factor in. That's been one of Vita's saving graces and could be big for PS4 as well. It won't move many consoles but honestly I've enjoyed a lot of indie games as much or more than many big budget full priced retail releases.
