Much like Watch Dogs, Ubisoft is aiming to use the power of the PlayStation 4 to make its cross-generation sequel Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag shine. Speaking as part of a video interview on the PlayStation Blog, associate producer Sylvain Trottier explained that the console’s added horsepower will allow the company to add more effects to its nautical jaunt.
“All of the little details that you can’t put on the current generation of consoles are going to make the game more beautiful and immersive,” he said. “It’s the overall PS4 experience that’s going to make the title look so much better.”
Trottier added that the impending platform’s social functions will enable the developer to blend the single player and multiplayer experiences. “Your friends are still going to be there even if you’re playing in single player,” he continued. “It’s going to be a nice evolution in terms of the gaming world.”
The executive concluded that it’s down to developers to make the PS4 sing. “The beauty of working with Sony on this console for this generation was the fact that it was built for the game makers," he noted. "We have a perfect jewel in our hand, and it’s up to us to make it shine.”

So no more framerate drops and scene/npc pop-ins right?
I could never get into Assassin's Creed, so I don't plan on buying Black Flag; but blending SP and MP sounds like it could be a really fun experience for consumers. If developers did the same thing with other games, I could see the PS4 being the system of choice for multiplats.
@TheRealBatman I really get the impression that's what they're going for. I think a lot of time with the PS3, some people just ended up buying the Xbox version because multiplatform games generally ran better or the infrastructure was better, etc. I think with PS4 they're pretty much counting on every multiplatform game performing better.
We'll have to wait and see how powerful the next Xbox is first, but it doesn't seem like it's going to be an impossible aim. Even if the next Xbox is more powerful than we expect, it's unlikely that it will achieve anything more than parity with the machine.
I expect this one to be the version without random framedrops and PC visuals.
No more than that.
@get2sammyb I'm not too worried about the next Xbox. They could surprise us but, so far, the best (and I use that very loosely) thing they have going for the reveal is the first glimpse at CoD: Ghosts.
The specs of the PS4 and Xbox are supposedly the same, so it really all boils down to features. Sony has built the PS4 with social gaming in mind, whereas Microsoft seems to be more focused on replacing people's cable/satellite provider.
But like you said, well have to wait and see...
Honestly, I have low expectations of the graphics, not expecting any great enhancement over ACIII. Would love to be pleasantly surprised.
