Sony is set to park hard information regarding Gran Turismo 6 online in a matter of weeks, according to sources close to CVG. Following the appearance of the unannounced racer on retailer NewEgg’s website, the British-based publication has reported that the platform holder “is weeks away from revealing” the sequel.
Strangely, the simulation racer looks set to drive onto the PlayStation 3 rather than the PlayStation 4, as indicated by Worldwide Studios vice president Michael Denny earlier in the year. “Look at the games coming out on the PS3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, [and] GT6,” he said in regards to the current generation console’s line-up.
We’re not entirely sure that we understand the strategy behind releasing a new Gran Turismo game on the PS3 so close to the PS4, but we hope that all will be cleared up soon. In the meantime, feel free to try and make sense of the situation in the comments section below.

They want to make PS4 "an addition to the family" in other words they want to keep selling the PS3 and producing games for it even if the PS4 is out but this might not turn out well the PS4 might be lacking in the future of 1st party support if they really are going to try to focus on both systems.
@Epic I understand that there's a lot of life left in the PS3 as a cheap alternative, but they really need to dump development on the console like a rock now. Stuff like Wonderbook and Invizimals is fine, but you do not put your biggest franchise out on your soon-to-be-replaced console at the same time as its successor is on the way. It's ridiculous.
@get2sammyb I know its just insane at this rate with GTAV, Grand Turismo 6 and Last of Us coming only on PS3 people don't any reason to buy a PS4 only some games and upgraded ports from current gen games and that was the Wii U mistake. Sony right now should reconsider their current strategy right now before they start making launch mistakes and Sony lets say can't really afford one right now.
Yeah agree. This seems crazy. I am waiting to see what GT6 will bring over GT5?
@Ginkgo A decent user interface? Seriously, I'm sure GT6 will be a very good game — more cars, more tracks, improved handling, overhauled visuals — but, yeah, this should be a PS4 game.
The thing is, no matter how good it is, it's going to get stomped by the next Forza which will almost certainly be on the Xbox 720. It just makes no sense at all.
Like the meme says
"Why not both" LOL
@WCamicase I guess that's the alternative, isn't it? I just wonder if Polyphony has the resources to handle that. They're a famously small team considering the scope of their games.
Like I said before, what is bad at all about a new GT game?? There have been 2 games on each gen from the start, so why wouldn't 5 and 6 be on PS3, with 7 and 8 blowing our butts away on PS4...
well maybe they wanted to keep the trend of 2 GT games a console (not counting prologue games)
Gran Turismo - PS1
Gran Turismo 2 - PS1
Gran Turismo 3 - PS2
Gran Turismo 4 - PS2
Gran Turismo 5 - PS3
Gran Turismo 6 - PS3
Maybe they're holding it back so that Drive Club has a chance to spin it's wheels. Their aren't many racing games, so maybe Sony wants to see if Drive Club can establish itself as a "must have" franchise. If GT6 launched on the PS4, Drive Club would be overlooked in favour of it, which would be bad for a potentially successful franchise.
Why announce it only weeks before E3? Maybe Sony wants PS4 focus at E3?
Im more surprised theyre announcing this now b/c I thought GT5 came out years after the announcement. Ild release a PS3 game this year, but I wouldnt announce one for 2015.
I don't REALLY see anything wrong with this. They spent so much time and money developing the engine and coding for the PS3 for GT5, it only makes fiscal sense to make GT6 for PS3 when the install base is so crazy high as it is. iirc, GT5 was the best selling PS3 exclusive of all time even.
That said, I'd love to see a version of GT6 on PS4 in time Everyday, it looks like DriveClub might satisfy that simulator itch while still appealing to the arcadies if they play their cards right.
@nathanuc1988
Nah. Best selling exclusive, but not best selling ps3 game to date, Most COD games on ps3 have sold better than that (around 10m each).
@naruball Sorry, that's what I meant.
There's people like me though that don't get over excited for racing sims. I like Forza because its actually a little more of a arcade sim mix in the racing style. But I am way more excited for DriveClub than Gran Turismo 6. So personally i can see people being 50/50 on the situation. I will be getting a PS4 and driveclub but not GT6 for PS3.
