Unstoppable force

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 earned a cool $500 million in 24 hours, publisher Activision has announced. The estimated figure is considerably higher than the previous records held by both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the first Call of Duty: Black Ops. However, the company failed to share actual sales figures for the latest modern military shooter.

Last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold an eye-watering 6.5 million copies during its first full day on sale. It’s probable that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 didn’t quite reach that tally, but made up for the deficit via digital sales, collector’s editions, and DLC season pass subscriptions.

Whatever the exact breakdown, it’s still another explosive success for Activision’s evergreen series. At least one million copies were sold at US giant GameStop on launch day, while Blockbuster’s UK chain sold an incredible 10,000 units in five minutes.
