Sony Computer Entertainment America gaffer Jack Tretton has responded to speculation suggesting that Sony is ready to roll out its next platform ahead of Microsoft.
Speaking with Geoff Keighley on GameTrailers TV, the likable executive noted that having the "best" console is what's most important to the company:
We’ve never been first. We’ve never been cheapest. It’s about being the best.
If you can build a better machine and it’s going to come out a little bit later, that’s better than rushing something to market that’s going to run out of gas for the long term.
In a perfect world you want the best machine that ships first that’s cheapest. But the number one goal is to be the best machine and that’s what we’re always focused on.
Despite rumours pointing to a PlayStation 4 release in late 2013, Sony still has a fairly stacked PS3 line-up to fulfil. Blockbuster titles such as The Last of Us, God of War: Ascension and Quantic Dream’s Beyond are all set to launch in 2013, pulling a PS4 release into doubt.

Couldn't agree more.
Seems like Nitendo's antithesis!
Xbox 360 was first but there is a landfill full of original xbox 360 with the RROD so he has a very valid point. I heard Microsoft say they are number one in console sales during their press conference but it is because everybody had to purchase two or more console over the 360 lifespan.
yup after vita launch i think they should rest for 1 whole gen...
Music to my ears!
