SpongeBob SquarePants Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated: All Collectibles

Being a 3D platformer, SpongeBob SquarePants Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated has lots of collectibles to find:

  • Golden Spatulas are the major collectibles in the game. You need to find lots of these to unlock new areas and progress through the game. There are 100 in total, and lots of different ways to get them throughout each level.
  • Patrick's Socks are another important collectible. Hidden throughout the game are 80 socks — some are easy to get while others require some tricky platforming to get to.
  • Golden Underwear is rare in the game, but is an important collectible. There are three pairs of golden underwear, and each one increases your health, letting you take an additional hit once collected.

Some levels have their own collectibles to find in order to 100% complete them and unlock golden spatulas. For example, in Downtown Bikini Bottom, you need to collect 11 steering wheels.

Collect as Many Shiny Objects as Possible

Shiny Objects are like Mario's coins or Sonic's rings. They look like flowers, come in various colours, and they're absolutely everywhere. You'll want to gather as many of these things as possible as you play the game, because certain areas and pathways in each stage are gated off by giant clams. You'll need to spend some shiny objects at these clams to open up every part of each level.

In addition, Mr. Krabs wants an ungodly amount of shiny objects, the greedy crab that he is. In the main Bikini Bottom hub, you can trade in thousands of shiny objects to Mr. Krabs, and he'll dole out golden spatulas in return. Don't worry — you'll almost never be in short supply of shiny objects. Just collect every one you see and break Tiki crates like a madman and you'll be laughing.

Check Progress in the Pause Menu

The pause menu has some useful information via a nifty map screen. It will show you your current location as well as all the other areas in the game. Highlight an area, then press X. This brings up a window showing you your progress in that level — which golden spatulas you've earned, how many of Patrick's socks you've found, and possibly more. It's a really easy way to keep track of your progress.

Use Fast Travel to Get Around Quicker

Speaking of this map screen in the pause menu, it offers a great function to reduce the amount of time you spend running around. If you want to get to a particular spot in a level, highlight the nearest golden spatula and you can fast travel there. Best of all, it costs nothing to do this. You can travel to any of these spots from wherever you are, meaning you can zip across the game with ease.

Learn the Differences Between SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy

SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy are your three playable characters in the story mode. They function basically the same as each other, but all have unique moves and abilities.

SpongeBob can use Bubble Bash to hit enemies and Tikis directly above him. He also has a Bubble Bounce to stomp down when in mid-air. Later in the game, he also gains access to Bubble Bowling, where he throws a bowling ball, and Cruise Bubble, a controllable missile. SpongeBob is also the only character who can sneak.

Patrick doesn't have an upwards attack like SpongeBob, but he does have a stomp attack. He's the only character who can use Throw Fruit and Freezy Fruit. The former can be used to hit targets and switches, or to hit enemies. The latter can be thrown into goo (water) to freeze it, allowing Patrick to skate across. Patrick can also pick up and throw stunned enemies.

Sandy doesn't have an upwards attack or a stomp move, but she makes up for it. She makes liberal use of a lasso, allowing you to target enemies and Tikis from afar. Hold the jump button after a double jump and Sandy will use the lasso to glide, making her very useful for reaching far off places. Finally, she can use special lasso grappling points to swing to new areas.

Return to Previous Areas with New Abilities

As we said, SpongeBob unlocks a couple of new abilities later in the game. Once you have these moves, it's worth revisiting some of the earlier levels, as there are one or two golden spatulas and socks you can only get using these abilities. Don't worry, there isn't much backtracking to be done.
