Relive Jill and Chris’ first outing as they investigate the still incredibly creepy Spencer Mansion. Smart use of Easter eggs and alternate sections make Resident Evil Remake feel like a director’s cut, even adding in new story elements. While the somewhat dated visuals can at times dilute a lot of the horror, Remake’s new breed of monsters are each terrifying in their own right, and the way the title reworks many famous scares will constantly keep you on your toes.
Arguably the new gold standard for remakes, Resident Evil 2 plays as a simultaneous homage and
remix of the original. Racoon City remains dangerous, yet strangely familiar. While vastly improved
controls make combat more manageable, that doesn’t mean you’ll be firing your gun as much as
you would be in the series’ later entries - this is still very much survival horror, and there are few
that have done it better.

The remake of Resident Evil 3 follows in the footsteps of Resi 2, releasing just over a year later. Nemesis makes a grand return, and Jill Valentine's story is retold in the superb RE Engine. The game itself isn't quite in the same league as its predecessor, but it's another stunning remake from Capcom.
The poster child of PS4 remakes, Shadow of the Colossus successfully modernises a PlayStation 2 classic without it losing any of its magic or mystique. Now PS4 Pro enhanced and dripping with graphical fidelity (in particular, the Colossi themselves steal the show), Shadow of the Colossus’ story is still one of gaming’s greatest 'show, don’t tell' tales.
After the success of the Crash remaster, it’s perhaps no surprise that Spyro followed. The diminutive dragon, his friends, and his enemies have never looked better, particularly on PS4 Pro. Small details like being able to see the very embers of your fire, or each dragon receiving unique voice acting go a long way to improving what was already a fondly remembered PSone trilogy.
