@Th3solution Now that you mention it, that does sound familiar, yes. I'm still grateful for the reminder, though, because whilst I have little intention of grappling with the series anytime soon, there's always a chance that I find a fiver's worth of PSN credit burning a hole in my digital wallet, and a well-timed sale catches my eye. I'll be sure to know what I'm getting into before I make any purchases.
That being said, I've heard from multiple trusted sources that the modern day stuff is utter bobbins, and goes absolutely nowhere, so I'd likely end up rushing through those sections anyway.
Further thanks to @mookysam for seconding the Origins recommendation!

@nessisonett@mookysam Really appreciate the helpful advice about Rogue Squadron II and the Wii option, my friends. I think my biggest problem is that I can't bring myself to buy a whole separate console for the sake of one or two games. Even if the whole endeavour costs less than a new PS5 game, there's something in my head that says, "You're buying a Wii for three games? Really?!" and I fold. Happened recently when I was considering a 3DS, and I'd found ten games of potential interest there, so three is just... I dunno, it's weird, and probably doesn't make very much sense. It's very much a "me" issue and so, like I say, I'm real grateful for your replies, and will keep 'em in mind for the day I snap!

@Ralizah I really enjoyed Forbidden West, as you know, and I swear it's because I didn't even touch its stupid board game's tutorial, let alone any "proper" rounds of it. I made Aloy ignore anybody who even mentioned it in passing. Yuck, yuck, and thrice yuck. Am wholeheartedly with you on those kinds of minigames, and adore your description of Gwent as "medieval Yu-Gi-Oh with a bunch of peasants".
"We want different things, Crosshair. That doesn't mean that we have to be enemies."
@nessisonett So you can re-experience the horror, or because you couldn't force yourself to go further?
I'm convinced I'm missing whatever gene predisposes people to like or understand sports. I can do neither. I literally feel like I'm surrounded by aliens anytime sports talk kicks up around me.
@RogerRoger Please tell me playing the board game in HFW isn't a requirement for the platinum!
@Ralizah@nessisonett Blitzball drove me up the wall on the PS2, and I could never beat the mandatory game, not that it mattered if you lost. When I replayed it via the PS3 remaster, I realised that focusing solely on the map made it much easier to figure out where to move.
@Ralizah@RogerRoger As someone who strongly dislikes most minigames (and in turn is rubbish at most of them), that Horizon: Forbidden West trophy is surprisingly painless. You just have to defeat two regular machine strike players, and that's it. The first two you encounter in the game are very easy to beat, so I was surprised I even got a trophy for it.
@RogerRoger That's just three games on your bucket list though; even as a non-Nintendo fan, I'm sure there are more games in the GameCube and Wii libraries you might enjoy. In the past you've spoken about Sonic Heroes looking and running better on the 'Cube. Normally I'd say that ten games is actually a pretty decent number to make a console purchase worthwhile, but maybe not for the extortionate sum that used 3DSs tend to go for nowadays!
Fallout
Psychonauts 2
The Last of Us Part II
Ico
Dance Dance Revolution EXTREME
Silent Hill
Wario Shake Dimension
Killer 7
God of War 2022
Deadly Premonition
My only real bucket list game is not one to start but to finish: Darkest Dungeon. Such a fantastic game, but punishing as hell. Years ago I got to the Championship Dungeons and then decided to take a quick break while I was distracted by other stuff. Years later, I still have not gone back, and the more time passes the harder it gets to return.
But it is such a great game. I will conquer it. Someday.............
Hades
Ghostwire Tokyo
Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart
Horizon: Forbidden West
Deaths Door
Tunic
Ender Lillies
Inscryption
Ff7r Episode Intermission
Sifu
I only have R & C from that list! 😂
I have a load of games that I've purchased that I could probably list but 1. The list would be too long and 2. I really can't be ****** to trawl through all my purchased games lol.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
I've kinda been doing this subconsciously this last couple of years (or made a start on it anyway). So I'll start with the progress that I've made subconsciously (and they tend to be 'series' rather than specific stand-alone title):
God of War Greek saga Metal Gear Solid series Assassins Creed series (I'm about halfway through them)
... and the games/series I'm planning on checking off the list:
Devil May Cry series Resident Evil series The Evil Within games Spec Ops: The Line Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Hitman series Dragons Dogma
Following @Th3solution 's train of thought, I'd say these are the gaming experiences I would regret missing out on:
Rez
Killer7
Exhumed
Pokemon (the GameBoy original)
Virtual On
Gunstar Heroes
Doom (PC original)
Shining Force III parts 2 and 3
Super Mario Galaxy
Theme Park
