We often have talk on our jobs and et cetera, and so much I feel it could use its own thread.

@Tasuki If you disagree, feel free to ban me for eternity (jk!) or just lock this thread.

So if you have anything job or school related you wanna share, please do. Of course, I'm always interested in what people (would want to) do for a living, so feel free to share.

Me: currently I'm in a kind of traineeship, as I'm a software engineer to be. Somewhere around Spring next year I will finally start earning a decent wage. But right now I still have to be really economical about the bit of money I have.

I'm enjoying life right now though, as it's exciting to pursue something new, after having been a student for way too long.

for me i have a job filling shelves (how fun) but then again i have NO qualifications to my name so i don't expect too much, i never finished School as i had to care for my Father when he became ill (and later on my mum), hence i have no GCSE's and i was 16 when i started working my first job and have not really had the time to study or take any exams really, it's either work or caring for my parents apart from those few hours i get to play my games

it is literally get up at 9am to care for my folks, go to work at 9pm-3am, play games for a bit, sleep and back up at 9am

@FullbringIchigo Have a lot of respect for the mentality, caring like that for your family.

I am "head of property management" and (surprise surprise) I manage properties, tenant, landlords, which includes everything you might expect. I also do the client accounting and recently I have been overseeing refurbishment works as we're looking to go into that side of things a bit more. If anyone wants any landlord/tenant advice let me know!! I've been doing it about 10 years and it's taught me a) diplomacy and b) not to take things too seriously. Even with this attitude it can be brutal and I'm not always the nicest person to work with lol. We're having a bit of a shake up next year as I've taken a bit too much on and I can't keep it up, im almost on the edge of a nervous breakdown half the time these days. This place gets me through when the going gets tough 😂

Before that I did various barwork, and before that I was a cleaner in a butchers shop. And if we keep going back I was a paper boy 😎

It's always interesting to hear what others are doing.

Im in Marketing for the Motor trade and a landlord, dad to 4 and ex military. I'm also currently on a break to reconvene in January on a programming course.

During my whole life whatever I have tried to learn I've managed to get through. GCSEs, HNC, Degree, Job Specific NVQs etc. This course though is so annoying. On the day I can fly through the work, I understand the theory, why the language is shaped the way it is and what I need to do. The next day I have forgotten what symbols do what and what words go where. Complete nightmare. It is like learning a new language and I've always struggled with that. With that I bid you bonjour.

I'm head of Operations for a Technology Company so have to do a lot of travelling and be serious for hours at a time. Therefore, whenever I don't have to be serious, I'm annoying. Also got a fam with 2 kiddles. In my spare(ish) time, I'm trying to get a gaming podcast off the ground and getting into video editing and recording for Youtube. Really that is a hobby and a way to try and learn a new skillset. I also like to make outrageous claims, like I invented the question mark. I also rip off lines from films.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

I work in recruitment these days, but have done export sales, gambling machine operations, local taxes, run a bistro and a good 10 year stint in pubs (Yates's, Marstons, Wetherspoon).

I've recently decided that I'm gonna take a serious shot at becoming a writer. Might mean that I end up in evening classes for aspiring writers at some point, once I've gotten my head screwed back on.

I'm kinda loathed to go "back to school" though, having gotten more than enough qualifications over the years which have ended up being somewhat meaningless, but I recognise that it'd be arrogant just to say "well, I think I'm good enough to be this now" and expect success. Plus, I've never really done anything creative professionally before (quite the opposite, in fact) so I need to figure out what the rules are.

i remember the important points of course like the main character, the killers calling card, who the killer was how she was caught etc, etc

@FullbringIchigo Nice; I'm often surprised by how many people admit to having written books and / or stories when I mention it. Sounds pretty neat!

I've been practicing my prose by writing Star Trek stories. It's been quite fun.

@RogerRoger Judging from your posts here - the occasional long one especially - you're pretty good at putting thoughts into words. Good on you for pursuing something you're passionate about.

RogerRoger

@Kidfried Thank you. That's really made me smile!

@RogerRoger i wrote a short Star Trek story once actually, it was about Worf in command of the USS Typhon from the game Star Trek Invasion and he had a game of cat and mouse in the Briar Patch with a unknown hostile ship
