@RogerRoger Cool shot, very dramatic. I actually had the (kind of) opposite problem with the Mako - I completely forgot it had a cannon and boost function until I'd been to several planets. Oh, and the jump ability as well. It's interesting how very familiar some bits of the game are and how I'd totally forgotten other stuff.

On that note, could you dance with squad members in the original? Last night I was in Flux and clicked on Liara while we were on the dancefloor to see what she'd say. We started dancing together. I tried it with Ashley and she just spoke as usual. Probably didn't want to use the same dancefloor as non-humans.

@Matroska Me whenever Ashley’s racist to a party member.

@ApostateMage Thanks! Am trying to make progress beyond the Photo Mode, but it's tough. I've been playing for nearly fourteen hours and I still haven't rescued Liara yet.

@Matroska Thank you, both for the shot praise and for reminding me that the MAKO can boost! Had totally forgotten about that ability! Blimey, there's so much stuff that the game just doesn't tell you about (stuff which I'm assuming would've been covered in a traditional boxed manual back in the day). I also didn't know you could dance in Flux, but then I've never been one to hang around in there. Maybe it's something specific to Liara, depending on whether you're heading towards a romance or not?

Oh, and your glitch video made me chuckle! I've had a couple of funny moments involving squad mates refusing to enter doorways and gently shaking, but nothing quite so spectacular... yet.

Gonna go and post some general screencaps over in the dedicated topic.

I was trying to find the prompt to dance in Flux earlier and actually thought they'd taken it out. It's the only place where Shep actually dances properly instead of doing the awkward shuffle. Next time I'm at the Citadel, I'm hitting Flux hard and I'll take Tali because she digs the music there.

@ApostateMage It seems like the general "dance on your own" one can only be done after the Volus guy takes to the dance floor after you do the quest involving the gambling machines. Not sure if dancing with team mates also can only been done after that.

@Matroska Thanks for mentioning the boost, I hadn't discovered that. I remembered the jump but I strangely don't recall a boost in the original, did it definitely have one? I didn't get any dance prompt in Flux either, maybe I'll have to go back with other team members. Although I haven't done the gambling machines assignment as I'm playing a virtuous Paragon this playthrough but maybe I'll let this one slide. I already the sneaky scans on the keepers.

I'll probably share some screenshots in the usual thread soon, I just took some I like up against a Thresher Maw. Although it did lead to my death and discovering my last save was 45 mins ago, whoops!

Also I really like the little Bioware logo animation at load up.

@BearsEatBeets Well as for the gambling assignment, you can actually tell the casino owner about it and be very Paragony if you prefer. I remember the Mako having a boost but then again memory is apparently very flawed when it comes to ME1.

If anyone cares about Platinums, the trophy lists are much easier in the remasters than in the original games. I nearly got the Platinum in the first Mass Effect without even trying. I could have mopped it up but for one thing I missed early on that means a second playthrough. Which I am fine with because I was going to play it anyway.

@RogerRoger

Well, been a few days. Meant to reply to you, but I got caught up in the regular forums and forgot to come back. Besides that, I've been sacrificing sleep to tour the galaxy in ME. Just landed on the planet to fetch my asari love interest, but I've cleared a few systems and done some random heroic deeds on my way. I'm still loving the old-fashioned gameplay, but the thing I miss most is the ability to hurdle over crates, like I think you can in the later games.

I also need to know where to send my membership fees for the MAKO accidental frontal assault club! Good thing I don't have to park that thing in a busy parking lot, my insurance premium would go through the roof! Calling your agent and trying to explain random cannon damage isn't the clear path to a good driver discount.

Keep having fun with it!

ApostateMage

@johncalmc I'm thankful that you only have to do 5 missions with each squad member this time instead of most of the game. Those trophies from the original release were so harsh and confusing.

@LordSteev You can't hurdle crates but you can jump up onto them. I did it last night in one of those cut and paste adrift freighters that are full of maze like containers.

I'm absolutely loving the Mako in this remaster. Gathering resources, medals and the like from uncharted worlds is a breeze now that it takes much less time to explore. Taking down Thresher Maws and Geth Colossus are so much easier too. Here's hoping they've majorly boosted the armour of the Hammerhead in ME2.

ApostateMage

LordSteev

@ApostateMage How? I don't think I have a jump button. Am I missing something? I agree with you totally about the new Mako. Still used to Cyberpunk, though, so I jump in and fire my cannon every time. If I remember right, the original Mako had the vertical thrusters, but not the nifty new forward burst ones! Makes it a lot easier to dodge that chemical bad breath. Also love it for climbing, get a good running start at a steep spot and hit burst, mountain peaks no problem!

LordSteev

@ApostateMage It's a lot clearer what you need to do. On the original game, it just said "most of the game" which behind the scenes equated to something like 70 missions or assignments. This time around you just need to use everyone for 5 missions or assignments which is really easy and can all be done in one playthrough. I wish I'd known how much easier the trophy list was and I would have been keeping an eye out for stuff I needed to do. I was going to play it again anyway so it's not a massive issue.

@LordSteev Just stand next to one, push forward and press x. I think It only works on certain crates. Shep is picky like that.

@BearsEatBeets OMG yes, that BioWare logo! Kept meaning to mention it. Beautiful stuff.

@johncalmc I'm pretty sure some of my trophies are bugged. I've taken Wrex on way more than five missions, but still don't have his trophy. I've also definitely used Charm and Intimidate to resolve multiple quests, but the associated trophy still hasn't popped.

@LordSteev No worries, buddy! Am just glad you've been enjoying the game thusfar! Same as you, I held back from the major missions in order to tidy up the galaxy (although I did finally get around to rescuing Liara last night, so my crew is now complete). I need to nip back to the Citadel to hand in a few completed quests, and then I'll be off to Novaria. I wanted to get the hang of the MAKO before doing anything major with it because, you're right, I could do without the insurance headache! Whoever keeps having to fix it between my bull-in-a-china-shop excursions deserves a promotion!

@ApostateMage I've seen people say that you can switch back to "classic" MAKO controls, but I can't find the option anywhere. Not that I'd want to for any major stretch, but I'm just curious to make a comparison because, like you, I'm finding the MAKO an addictive pleasure to drive.

@ApostateMage You know, I thought I remembered something like that from way back, and in one of those generic enemy bases on a random world, I saw what could have been a container on top of a crate, and tried every combination of buttons and triggers possible. I felt stupid, 'cause I could have sworn you could get up on them somehow. I'll try a different crate!

LordSteev

johncalmc

@RogerRoger The charm/intimidate trophy only pops at certain point(s). I know where it popped for me - no spoilers but if you've played before you'll know - which was the conversation on Virmire before the main mission there. I think it means BIG choices, which presumably means the one at the end will pop it too if you miss this one. Not sure though.

In terms of the missions, I didn't really know how it calculated it. Some of my squaddies I thought I'd taken on more than five when they popped, and others less. I'm not sure what they count as a mission. It must be some combination of missions and assignments, but some missions are multi-part so...?

I would say just keep using them and it will hopefully sort itself out. It did for me.

@RogerRoger I was looking for that option in the menus last night so I could compare the two but I couldn't find it either.

@RogerRoger

Sounds like you've gotten ahead of me! I've got a few missions I need to go back to the Citadel for, too, but as the rhythm of the game comes back to me, I seem to recall that only being necessary after visiting a major world, so first the girlfriend, then the Citadel, then Novaria!
