@Bob_Salat
Oh it’s you, I should have realised from your avatar.
KCD is very good but it is quite difficult and I’m not jelling with the combat, thankfully you can use other methods if direct confrontation is causing problems.
Feels very much like the Dark Souls of Skyrim/Oblivion and the combat is very visceral. Quite amazing accomplishment for the studio given that it is their first game (I think).
As Bethesda Studios seems to have come off the rails these days (IMO and that is based on their engine) then perhaps this studio can take up the mantle.. I do miss the fantasy side of things in KCD though but realism is what they are going for.
1. I can't resist jumping into KCD chat, but CaptD pretty much sums it up. It is initially quite hard, can take some getting used to, but it rewards you so much with its charm and loveliness and depth that it's worth any struggles 😅 it is also unashamedly the game it wants to be, rather than just a copy of other games, and usually you have to tackle elements as if it was real and not a game, as 'game logic' will generally get you either smacked about or make you regret treating it as just a game by quests having consequences if you aren't paying attention.
2. It was their first game, but the lead writer and founder of the studio did write Mafia and Mafia 2. Just a little tidbit
3. I keep pondering getting involved in game club, as I do like to chat about games, so I'll keep an eye out on what gets chosen, if I remember to, and maybe get stuck in one day. And I just happened to be looking into what 'The Plucky Squire' was the other day, so maybe that is a sign. We shall see 😅
@CaptD Ah yes apologies, I seem to have inherited JudgeDredd’s compulsion to change names 😂
@Ravix
KC:D sounds brilliant if you can get over the steep learning curve then? The idea of having to put more thought into your actions throughout the world and there be genuine consequences seems almost revolutionary in the a sea of rpgs that make the same claim.
Your enthusiasm for the game is palpable Rav and is definitely making me consider moving it up the backlog 🤔
P.S. you’re more than welcome to join us Rav, you don’t have to commit every month, I’ll just send out a ping and you can vote if you wish. The more the merrier 👍
Good day gang! Apologies for the late post, I had a busy weekend so wasn’t able to get organised.
Once again democracy has prevailed and the people have chosen The Plucky Squire as your game for November. It looks really fun and immensely creative from what I’ve seen of it. Enjoy!
@Bob_Salat Thank you, bud. A huge Election Day happening tomorrow here in the states, democracy is certainly a hot topic indeed. Here’s hoping it goes as smoothly for our nation as it has for the club. 😄
Plucky Squire looks like a unique game. I’ll see if I can get around to it at some point this month, but I’m not sure. I have an agenda of my own so I’ll have to see how it all plays out.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
I very well may check this game out. It does look unique and intriguing. I may leave it up to Sol to remind me at some point, if I do forget. As I will also encourage them to throw any gaming agendas in the bin and be more free flowing, loosey goosey with it. A bit like an in-form, uninjured Kristaps Porzingis would be 😛 play with a smile, not a spreadsheet
When it seems you're out of luck.

@Th3solution Good luck, I hope Uncle Democracy brings you something nice this year. We have our fair share of political bellends this side of the pond and it looks equally exhausting for you guys over there.
We’re playing The Plucky Squire this month, join us!
I booted this game up, played for an hour or two, but noticed there were two thing holding me back from enjoying it: gameplay and writing. For all the color this game has, both the gameplay and writing somehow felt very beige. The writing is serviceable to the point of almost being forgettable. And while there are some nice gameplay moments (players will know what I'm talking about), most of the time the gameplay almost felt like wallpaper.
Now, I don't mean to be too harsh on the devs. The game is well made and it's definitely polished. The craft is there, but for me personally the game is lacking in 'magic'.
I am really curious to what your experience is on this game. Maybe I'm overlooking something, maybe I should try it again. 🌞
Just finished Chapter 1 yesterday evening. I really like the art style and the vibes of the game. Gameplay is pretty simple which is not a bad thing for me at least. Let's see if the story gets more excited down the road.
Oh and I really like the Dualsense features in this game especially that DJ scene
@Herculean
I played it on release and kind of agree with you. I think my favourite part of it was the initial release trailer, like wow it's both a 2D and a 3D game. I enjoyed the first hour or two but then it just became a bit plodding, I mean it does nothing wrong and does attempt to introduce new ideas and mechanics throughout but it's just a bit vanilla. Neither the 2D or 3D gameplay parts excel so the only thing that makes it stand-out is the fact that you can transition between them, and even then only in a very linear when the game allows you to fashion.
It's not a particularly long game so maybe worth seeing through to conclusion anyway but overall it didn't live up to my expectations of it.
I hope this post doesn't put anybody off attempting it or continuing to engage in the discussion on here. Hope you have more fun with it than I did.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@sorteddan Yea, I fully agree with you. I mostly posted here with the idea to get some discussion going. Maybe there's someone who can tell me what I'm missing.
In general I like simple games like these. Not everything needs to have a complex gameplay system or a heavy storyline, there is fun in the elegance and the simple act of playing a game. There might be something in this game that I have not fully grasped? Who knows! 🌞
Not sure if I lost interest in the game halfway through in Chapter 4 or maybe I'm just too invested in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Overall I think it's a nice game. Love the art style and the combat is pretty simple. Maybe I'll try to finish it next week and give a final verdict of my opinion about it.
Hello all! I hope you are all warm and dry and doing fine. Looks like that Plucky Squire wasn’t so lucky this month. The odds were definitely stacked against this one with November’s releases. Anywho, lets see some voting fingers for 2024’s final game, you know the score, pick something off the list or suggest something new and sparkly
@ me with your vote! 👍
Take care everyone.
