@Titntin it doesn’t look like the ‘overtake’ button is doing much at this track.

Edit: looks like Lando is quicker than Oscar. Had that incident and lost about a second and a half but made it all back in a couple of laps.

Edit 2: Definitely has now. Got in front on the pit-stop and then has left him for dead.

Not sure how Red Bull think the softs will last that long for Max.

Great drive from Norris, deserves the win. Piastri cant get a break.
Verstapan making those softs last all that time deserves a second place.
...and Hamilton getting another penalty, they have to get on top of that!
I hate to admit it but stroll put in a decent performance too.

BTW, the forum sometimes updates slow and I don't see your posts for 30 mins....

@Titntin yeah Oscar having some lousy luck today but Lando was flying and deserved the win. I noticed at the end Stroll beat Alonso, how did that happen? I didn't keep track of the back of the pack, maybe they did different strategies and it worked for Stroll?

I loaded the page and it showed I had a notification but still showed me as the last commenter on the main page for the thread.

EDIT: They just mentioned there were issues with the driver trackers and blue flag systems during the race. Is that all AWS powered as well I wonder. I imagine the Lewis penalty was correct but I do wonder if there is a possibility the tracker was an error.

I missed all of Friday and Saturday but got back in time to watch the race. Quite a lot going on, cars seemed to have pace then not have pace, made it hard to predict. But it was fun enough for a track that is hard to overtake on.

Lando well deserved victory, though Oscar got unlucky. It was good to see not a Mercedes on the front row! Hamilton with yet another penalty. It’s costing a lot of points when you add them all up!

But Antonelli widens his gap even on a weekend where he struggled a bit. Russell also can’t catch a break.

Aston much improved and now possibly in the fight with a few others. I missed the build up though, was this one of two large upgrades or the whole thing?

@themightyant The Aston upgrades were all on the chassis/aero. The engine upgrade is planned for Zandvoort after the break so they have potential to be another step better then. If that does end up being substantial they could be well into battling the midfielders.

F1 back form it's summer break. I only caught the last few minutes of Practice. I didn't notice anything majorly different from team performances. I checked to see if Aston had brought their new engine for this weekend and it seems they have.

About to see for sure if any teams have improved over the break.

It will be curious how Lawson manages to get on with this version of the Red Bull for this weekend.

Edit: Did the Hungary track flatter the Astons? Was not expecting them to be right back with the Cadillacs again. Unless there is something I don't know about there must be some head scratching goin on.

Only one session but impressive start by Lawson.

Surprising Sprint Qualifying. A few drivers not maximising their potential but good to see George come back from the break with a sprint pole. Hopefully he can’t take the fight to Kimi.

Also Aston seemed significantly faster in practise but lost it all in qualifying. Will be interesting to see where they end up now there is a new engine.

@themightyant I was a bit distracted during qualifying but apparently Alonso's aero opening for the straights weren't working so it would cost him a lot of performance. We might have to see the whole weekend through before getting a better idea where they are at.

Yeah some good results for George would be good to make the title more competitive.

I've got to make sure I remember the Sprint is fairly early tomorrow (compared to usual).

Really happy to see George firing on all cylinders. People are so quick to write him off and I feel he needed that to remind people he's no outsider in this battle!

While I appreciate the races being back, I'd rather it were not a sprint weekend after the break to allow them to settle the cars back in over some regular practices. Sprint after a break feels a bit like artificially shaking the positions up a bit, and I'm not keen on that
I almost missed it all yesterday, got my Steam Machine on Friday and I had my head stuck into that yesterday until Claire reminded me of F1!

Disappointingly it looks like over takes are very difficult here, so I'll expect a procession tomorrow and qualy later will be most important.

@Titntin Solid clean race by George. You're right it wasn't the most exciting of Sprints, we've got to hope for some varied strategy to help maybe make some overtakes more likely.

It was interesting seeing how George got Pole for this Sprint in the build-up. Lando was ahead going into the final straight but George just flew past with higher speed on the straight. I have to wonder if a similar lack of deployment on the straight is what allowed Charles to get past.

Shame that rain didn't come a bit earlier to spice it up.

I think you are correct on the Overtake. I saw Charles say he had noticed Lando had little deployment left for that straight, so he saved a lot of his own to give him the opportunity. Even then, he was only alongside lando at the end of the straight rather than past him. If Max were in that car I don't think the same move would have gotten him past

@Titntin I can't say I'm convinced Max could have held it. Once Charles was alongside he had the inside line, the person on the outside would have to take the wider curve faster than the inside one. You would have to have a lot more grip than the other car. Hopefully we will see more attempts tomorrow to get a better idea 🤞.

We have rain! Hard to say if it's enough to affect the start yet.

Its drying out, but I suspect its going to be intermediates for a few laps so it could mix things up a bit.

That's a shame. The track will probably dry out more before the restart. I hope I'm right in thinking they changed the rule so that cars can't swap their tyres now and avoid having to make a pitstop.

Watching the replays there were so many close calls between cars.
