@BearsEatBeets One thing that occurred to me is that once they're ready for lapped cars to be released is the safety car could pull the order through the pits and let lapped cars go round as normal at racing speed.
@LiamOliver I still think the easiest solution is for the back-markers to just pull to the side and let the appropriate cars past. I can't see it taking more than about half a lap and then they are immediately right out of the way.
Just Charles preventing an all Brit podium in the end. Still, he's a likeable chap and happy for him after a poor spell.
Feel bad for Kimi but that result makes the championship much more competitive.
Having now seen the Lewis possible penalty, it would seem pretty harsh. The yellow shows up on his steering wheel AFTER he has passed the incident and mid-corner where he will be focused on the apex, by the time he comes out of the corner the green flag is shown on track.
EDIT: sky just said he didn’t get one. I just left to go to the bathroom, is this confirmed!
EDIT 2: yes no penalty! Reprimand only.
EDIT 3: that’s what Sky live update DID say… but now that message confirming it wasn’t a penalty has disappeared. Who bloody knows! Omnishambles
Still no idea why we didn’t get a racing lap, SC was signalled to come in. What changed? Imagine this in any other sport.
@themightyant yeah I saw Ant's bit on Lewis and his yellow flag so I'm glad nothing came of it.
As to the Safety Car, word is the message saying it was coming in was a software error. Ant showed on another video that the message for the lapped cars to go past literally came as they just crossed the start line so had to give a full lap before allowing to go again. Basically seems that if that call came a few seconds earlier we would have got that final lap race.
Overall it's something they definitely have to work towards speeding up, I've lost track of the times it seems to go for too long.
Interesting first practice. 2x Red Bulls, 2x Ferrari's. That Hadjar was "just" 0.25s behind Max is promising for them. Mclaren and Mercedes half a second back with work to do.
Always interesting to see teams out with flo-vis, will be interesting to see if Mercedes new parts work.
Would not have expected 6th and 8th for Merc - but its only FP1, I'm sure their pace will materialise.
Hadjar has shown time and again that he's not that far behind Max, which is nice to see, long may that continue! Going back to a more traditional wing seems to be helping the Red Bulls...
Unfortunately I'll miss FP2 as I need to go and pick up my wife. I'll catch up when I get back..
@themightyant I only caught a few minutes near the end and only saw the car sitting on the track but thought I heard mention they should be able to get it done in time 🤞.
I noticed Lando got second but didn't see enough to tell if the upgrades McLaren brought mean they are actually going to be competitive.
I've been hearing clipping is going to be back big time on this track. I hope we can still get an entertaining race.
Q1 had some surprises. Didn’t expect Lindblad to be ahead of Antonelli. But we’ve seen the Mercedes behind in Q1 before only to roar back in Q2/3z, let’s see.
As expected Antonelli came through in the end… and by some distance… though I don’t think I would have got the rest of the top 10 in order. Bring on the race
That new engine and the updates seem to be working for Lando even if he ruined his final run. Hopefully we get some good racing from him trying to move up some places.
Kimi dominating as usual and Linblad impressed even though Q3 wasn't as outstanding as Q1/Q2.
Lewis and Charles only 2 thousandths of a second apart over the longest (I think) lap in F1.
