As Monaco goes, that was a pretty good one for me. I had a bunch of stuff to sort whilst it was in the background which I never got near until after... Even the red flag window was just enough to sort a late lunch out.
Wow! I'm quite shocked by this decision. Seems to make a right mess of what penalties should or should not have happened and many of which with effects that can't be 'undone' so easily.
Yes others served penalties in the race, what can you do to fix that? Nothing.
What's crazy is if George didn't stop, and ignored the penalty, he could possibly have been given the same pass now and finished 3rd... and that could literally decide the title with George dropping from 3rd (a potential 15 points) to 13th (nil points!) - Though it's a little more complicated as his second penalty was for not serving the first (now likely invalid one).
Though I do think it's ultimately the right decision for Gasly, though it's a complete mess in terms of the others, the stewards should have realised something was up in real time when there were 6 pit lane speeding violations in the race (2 for Gasly) even the often clueless commentary was making that point load and clear.
Not sure what the right answer is other than they should have been more pro-active about this in real time.
I sincerely hope we don't get another 2021 and the title decided by stewarding cock-ups. What a mess!
@themightyant I mean, it's a mess no matter what they do now but surely the fairest thing they can do is just leave it as it was. Yes they have admitted the measurement was incorrect but it was applied equally to everyone. Every driver was measured the same and only those cutting a corner (legally of course) that got caught out by the measurement.
I hadn't even really thought about it in terms of the championship with Russell. Let's hope it doesn't end up being a factor.

Something else I've remembered is I watched a video a while back of the new Spain track being driven by Carlos. The track layout looked quite promising I thought for potentially a good race.
We get to qualifying. Mercedes and McLaren looked the best in Practice. There’s a lot of chat about tire deg, how much you sacrifice setup for qualifying v race and a possible 2 or even 3 stop race. Often this is all exaggerated but I look forward to finding out.
Also Fernando saying this might be his last Barca race, the next one not being till 2028, first time he’s suggested the end may be nigh.
@themightyant A 3-stopper would help make for an entertaining race. That makes the Aston being an absolute stinker even more sad. I'll keep my fingers crossed Newey can rustle up some amazing upgrades for the new Madrid race so maybe he can be in contention for some points. I hope Williams can find some good improvements too. After some good progress last season it's a shame to see them at the back of the pack again.
@BearsEatBeets yes it was another good qualifying. I’m happy with the changes they made a few races ago.
Russell doing what he needs to and Hamilton doing him a favour too. Lewis on a roll, clearly happier with the car and pulling a good lap out when it matters. Could he jump George at the start and nick a win? Will be interesting to see how their race set up is vs qualifying.
Red bull also surprising, Isack just 0.05 off Max he’s doing a great job.
Will be interesting to see what Charles says, blame the car to take the blame this week.
Due to my interest in a tennis final today I'm going to have to relegate the F1 to a second screen on my laptop. It will probably end up being peak race now I'm dividing my attention.
