At this point (after the leaked trailer fragments and stuff) it will be weird if they don't have at least a trailer there.

@TheBrandedSwordsman I’m thinking we’ll finally see something official here and I’m still hopeful for a fall/winter release.

I'm taking this as 100% confirmed that Elden Ring will be shown at E3. 🤣

@JohnnyShoulder You mean today at Keighley's thing? It's also apparently exactly 2 years from the original reveal (June 10, 2019).

@Voltan Yeah I got my conference event type things mixed. Shows how much attention I'm paying to it all lol.

Well it’s another Souls game! Which looks really good but yeah, it’s Souls. That’s what it is.

@JechtUltima Yeah, the open world thing could either make or break it. I guess I just expected something more distinct like how Sekiro immediately felt like something new.

@JechtUltima Thank your lucky pasta bowl!

Liked what I saw tbh and we don't have that long to wait!

Where is the main man @TheBrandedSwordsman on the one night this drops! 😆

@JechtUltima Good shout there is actually an M&S store near me which I don't mind going into. I wonder if it will last until the game is out?

@JohnnyShoulder Thanks for the mention! I've seen it now. For anyone who hasn't yet:

Releasing January 21st I believe. @colonelkilgore @nessisonett @Thrillho @Th3solution @Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy @crimsontadpoles @Ralizah now that there is actual official trailer footage, have you watched it? Are you hyped? Looking forward to the release date roughly six months from now?

@TheBrandedSwordsman couldn't be more hyped bud. There are a lot of games on the 'horizon' that I'm excited for... but ever since the rumours started filtering through about a Miyazaki-Martin collaboration loosely based off of celtic and norse mythologies (before its announcement at E3 2019) THIS has been the game I've been waiting for.

Looks pretty much the perfect evolution (notice I didn't say revolution) of the Souls formula and I couldn't be more thrilled. As much as I have enjoyed Sekiro, as much as I have enjoyed other developers taking a stab at the sub-genre... since wrapping Dark Souls 3 there has been something missing, a void of 'incandescence' that once shone down on gaming to be praised... but its back baby!

... Not to rain on your parade but I pretty much feel the exact same as I did when that leaked internal trailer came out a couple of months ago @TheBrandedSwordsman.

Similarly to ness's comment on the previous page it's a souls looking game that... looks a lot like a souls game.

It's not that I'm not excited for it... I wasn't too hyped for Dark Souls II or III either til they ended up in my hands to be perfectly honest.

The Souls games are a more gameplay focused affair after all (Even If I really quite like the lore and storytelling used in them) so... You'll probably have to wait til I've actually got a PS5 and the game in hand before I start boarding the hype and gushing about it

@TheBrandedSwordsman I don’t know what’s been out there before but this is the first I’ve really seen of the game.

I guess I was also hoping for something that wasn’t so Soulsy in look but I’ll be intrigued to see how the pull off the open world (and not just call it an open world like you could try and claim DS1 was).

I gotta be honest, I was expecting Elden Ring to look more like a big exciting RPG and less like Dark Souls on a horse.

Not singling anyone out as this does appear to be a common take on here but there seems to be a lot of surprise at how similar Elden Ring looks to Dark Souls. As an avid FromSoft fan I consume every nugget of information released and this was made reasonably clear. The basics are... and I'm paraphrasing that Elden Ring would have combat very akin to that of Dark Souls but the environment would be much more 'open-world'. As a result, there would be steeds for travel, boss fights would happen in 'open-field' type environs rather than your typical boss 'arenas' and there would be numerous kingdoms spread out around the map.

This next part could have been rumour or press release (I can't quite remember as its been a while) but on conquering a kingdom (& presumably defeating an Elden Lord) the player inherits a unique trait/skill/power previously wielded by the vanquished.

Prior to the release of Sekiro, Fromsoft announced that they had been working on three games. One was meant to be totally unlike their usual output (probably Deracine) and the other two would be similar in varying degrees to they're previous work. It now looks like Sekiro varied the formula in terms of the combat and traversal, though maintained the game progression from checkpoint to checkpoint (shrine to shrine instead of bonfire to bonfire) while Elden Ring is varying the game environment from checkpoint to checkpoint but maintaining the combat style (though it will probably evolve a bit... personally I'm hoping they keep the 'side-step when locked on' from Bloodborne).

I get that Souls doesn't quite hit everyone like it does the core audience but the information was out there.

@TheBrandedSwordsman It looks great. I can start to see now why people are hyped for it. This game is probably a good place for me to get into the Souls-like genre, if I've not already tried one by the time it releases.

Hopefully the PS4 version also runs fine. All the Cyberpunk shenanigans has made me a little worried whenever a large, hyped game is coming to past gen consoles.
