@RogerRoger those episodes sound fun. I'll have to jump back in and watch season 2.

Yeah, "fun" is definitely the word I'd use for this season (gut-wrenching third episode aside). I'm guessing it's all gonna end up going in a similar direction to last season, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to relax and enjoy some exploration and mischief in the meantime.

@JohnnyShoulder That's a shame. I keep meaning to look for the fan edit that minimises Jar-Jar and Anakin but I don't like the rest of movie that much, either.

Thrillho

@LN78 That edit would be mercifully short though.

@LN78 Yeah it will not be something I'm in any rush to see again. But I am itching to get the original trilogy on 4K Blu Ray, as I've not seen them since I had the dvd boxset.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@Thrillho Not short enough. @JohnnyShoulder The 4Ks are fantastic in terms of audio/video quality. I watched them once and then went back to my "despecialised edition" blu-rays off of Etsy. They're superb.

And that’s Episode 2: Attack of the Clones watched over the last couple of nights.

Was Lucas trying to see how far he could push fans before they called him out on these stories? I can’t decide if it’s an improvement on E1 or not but I can see why I had mostly pushed this film out of my mind.

For every interesting segment on the Clones, there’s at least as much cringe inducing Anakin/Padme story which might not have been so bad if it wasn’t for the fact C3PO demonstrates a better acting range than Hayden Christensen.

Thankfully there is more action than E1 and the big battle scene is still pretty cool, plus it’s always fun to see more of #TeamFett.

@Thrillho The problem wasn't that Lucas was trying to alienate the fans - it was that he had surrounded himself with a posse of obsequious and oftentimes fanatical sycophants (chiefly Rick McCallum) who refused to tell him that his ideas were terrible. This also goes a long way to explaining why the original trilogy (well most of it,anyway) was so good - he was reined in by technology, budgetary concerns and writers who tempered his worst creative excesses.

@Thrillho As much as I love Boba's colourful look, nothing quite beats the sleek silver, blue and purple of Jango's armour. Such an iconic image from my childhood.

Are you gonna go through the whole Skywalker Saga? I'm enjoying these re-assessments!

@RogerRoger I thought I’d do a timeline (re)watch of all the non-animated films and programmes. Disney+ makes it quite easy with it putting everything in order in the Star Wars section of the app.

I enjoyed the original trilogy as a kid and remember little about E2 and E3, and then only saw the first film of the latest trilogy. Oh, and I only saw Rogue One on a flight so it would be nice to see “properly”.

I just realised watching The Mandalorian that I got a bit lost as to what was going on in the grand scheme of things; for instance I’d heard of all the “baby Yoda” memes beforehand and genuinely thought that’s who it was rather than a different character

Octane

@Thrillho @LN78 Yeah. Episode 4 was completely rewritten during editing. Large story segments were removed or altered, scenes were shuffled around, dialogue was added in or removed. There is an interesting documentary on the making of episode 4; the end result is quite a bit different from what Lucas originally had in mind.

@Octane There's a series of fantastic, beautifully illustrated coffee table books on making of the OT by a guy called J.W.Rinzler that comes highly recommended - they're full of behind the scenes photos, annotated screenplays and all kinds of other goodies.

@Thrillho Disney+ does help simplify the whole series, for sure. Sounds like you've got a bit of a scattershot history with Star Wars so, as you say, I hope you enjoy getting to see it all "properly" and that it aids you keeping current with the new shows!

And don't worry, you're not alone in making that mistake about Grogu.

Today's episode of The Bad Batch hammered home the utterly essential need for Gungi to get his own spin-off show. Scrap everything else, just have all Star Wars be about Gungi from now on. Did I mention Gungi? I love Gungi. Gungi is awesome. More Gungi, please! Also, Gungi.

And I'm saying all this after yet another type of freaky spider got introduced to the galaxy, as well.

Usually I do not condone piracy, but my cousin sent me this, which I thought was rather sweet - especially considering there will probably never be an official physical release from Disney.

The Bad Batch continues to go from strength to strength. I missed yesterday's mid-season two-parter by accident, but caught up this morning and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The whole thing was a callback to the darker, more complex political intrigue episodes of The Clone Wars, which I adored, and some of the returning characters from those episodes were welcome surprises, but it also advanced the Dark Times storyline and showed a crucial turning point in the Empire's evolution. Good stuff.

That can't be the end of Rampart, though, and what was with that Clone assassin?!

I forgot to say that I watched Episode 3 last week and it’s fair to say it’s the best of a bad bunch, mostly because it sticks to action scenes rather than dialogue.

Hayden Christensen was more tolerable in this one, again more due to the lack of dialogue than anything, but the heel turn from “oh god, I killed Mace Windu… I’M A MONSTER!!” to “yeah, I’ll kill all the younglings no problem” within the same scene would have been too much even for WWE.

General Grievous is such a cool character and a bit wasted here. I assume both he and other aspects of the film were expanded on in The Clone Wars which is odd seeing as that came out after the film.

It clearly suffers from the problem of having to end up where Episode 4 will start off and it almost manages to do it all but does feel a bit convoluted at times.

Next up: Solo!

@Thrillho I think you're doing the quality of the writing a slight disservice. The dialogue in the "love has blinded you" balcony scene was better than Shakespeare.
