Topic: Cause I'm the tax man (and there's no PS Vue forum)

Received this email this morning, just in time for my PS+ and PS Vue to renew.

Hello rjejr,

We are writing to inform you that PlayStation™Store, PlayStation™Vue, PlayStation®Plus, PlayStation™Now, and PlayStation™Music, will start collecting sales tax in your state starting November 2, 2018. The sales tax charged on each order is determined by your state, county and city tax rates.

One of the big promotions for streaming TV services is not paying all of the fees and taxes you pay with cable. So much for that. My sales tax is 8.75, so almost another $5 on a $50 PS Vue Core Plan. Which is probably nothing to all of you paying VAT every day on every purchase, but not on Vue which you can't get, but it's not quite the holiday Black November email I was looking forward to.

All those in favor of paying taxes raise your hand.

@get2sammyb You didn't have to reopen it, it's pretty obvious nobody cares about PS Vue on a gaming website anyway, especially a UK/EU gaming website where Vue ins't even a thing, but to say an email I got directly from Sony - that was a cut and paste - can't be discussed on a Sony gaming website was pretty ridiculous.

Actually it wasn't even from Sony, the email sender was "PLAYSTATION".

Guess we aren't supposed to have discussions on a Playstation website about Playstation notifications. I thought that's what the forums were for. Especially the "General Discussions" forum. Absurd.

I closed it cause this seemed more of a political discussion the a discussion of PS Vue. As Sony has to control over government taxes. That would be like me complain that I have to pay taxes on PS games. Yes the value of streaming services over cable is no hidden fees but Sony has no control of the govenrment. So it's not really a hidden fee and has nothing to do with Sony or PS Vue now does it.

@Tasuki I disagree on that. If lootboxes were banned by law in the UK, then we surely would have a thread on it as well, even though Sony can not change that fact.

@rjejr Anyway, may I ask to those who use the service what the benefit of it is. I believe the service costs 40 dollars a month, am I right? Which sounds unbelievably expensive compared to 15 Euro which is the cheapest TV plan over here.

@Kidfried That's completely different taxes are on everything it's just how it is. A ban on loot boxes is because people can't control themselves and expect that the government should.

@Kidfried I think it's $50 now, or $60 or $75, there were 3 tiers last time I looked. The same amount of TV channels with my local cable company would probably run about $100. Well there would probably be a lot more channels with cable but different languages and govt channels and music channels etc. So cost is still a benefit. My biggest problem w/ cable right now, and it's everyone's problem, is less the taxes and more the fees. Typical package is $65, then the box is $20, then $8 for local channels and $7 sports fee whether you want sports or not. So the $65 package is really $80 b/c of the 2 fees, plus that's only 1 rental box, you need boxes for every tv of course. So PS Vue wins b/c it works on most TV devices, gaming consoles, sticks, little Roku boxes, tablets, phones, maybe PC, never checked. And what the cost is is what you pay. Well except now there's tax.

Cord cutting is a big deal in the US now, besides PS Vue for $50 there's Youtube TV and Hulu TV and Direct TV, I think those are also $50 each, then there are the lower price less channel options like Sling for $25, or Philo for $16 or ATT Watch TV for $15. All have differences, number and type of channels, DVR options, app sign in. They work on different devices like Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, gaming consoles. I think some smart tvs.

I quit my cable company TV service in February, still use them for internet, can't do much of anything in life w/o internet in 2018, and I've tried all the services free trials and paid for a couple. I'm using PS Vue this month b/c you got a month trial with the $30 PDP Cloud Remote. It's a nice little remote for PS4, saves on the worthless PS4 Dualshock battery life while I'm streaming TV. I also watch Netflix.

Unless you are taking about weekly, then it would be $12.50, and you'd be pretty close. lol to you too.

I just use Netflix, Hulu and maybe one other streaming service usaully WWE Network for my tv needs. Not really big on live TV since I have such a hectic schedule that I find it hard to watch TV on a set schedule like Fridays at 8 for example. That's why I like Hulu, Netflix on WWE Network so that way I can watch what I want when I want not by some corporate networks schedule.

I've got a ton of subscriptions. My family has netflix and Hulu, my sister has crunchyroll, and I've currently got a funimation subscription. Makes it easy to find anime lol. But really though, it is quite convient overall. Oh, and I forgot, we also have Amazon Prime for the shipping, so the video there is a bonus.

I usually only have one streaming service at time, I prefer it that way so I don't end up getting bored of the TV shows I enjoy and I'm not a binge watcher. I currently have Netflix and NOW TV, but that's because I have Netflix for free until next spring. I will cancel NOW TV this month as I'm coming to the end of a few series and think I'm at a good point to finish with it for now.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
